Good news is that their chances of death are a lot lower than those making the threats.

"And yet it moves."

While I wish this were not the case, history is full of scientists having to defend their work against ignorant psychopaths drummed up into a fury by dogmatic assholes.

Galileo Galilei did not get sentenced to permanent house arrest because of his advocacy for a heliocentric solar system. It was the way he went about advocating for a heliocentric solar system.

"Lately"?

Dude. It's Alberta.

Whenever I see a headline reading something like "Man Beaten With Own Crutches", my first thought is "Toronto"; the second, "Alberta".

//that was an actual Fark headline
//yes, Toronto

This. 15% reported. If you go off of assault numbers...it's probably 40%+ have been threatened.

There was one US immunologist who was in Africa for Ebola and worked primary with bats, and was a caustic asshole on a normal day.  I hope he's responsible for a number of trolls committing suicide.

That's what makes it surprising.  I'd expected the number to be 100% and the 'interesting' number to be the number of unique threat sources per scientist.

I think there should be a law that a death threat is given the same penalties as attempted murder.  We need to fill those jail cells now that weed is legal.

Scientists have been getting threats for years. Global warming, evolution, stem cells, whatever there are cranks out there who will find your address.

I keep mine under a copy of "How to Lie with Statistics" for the lulz.

I'd rather say that we have those jail cells for actual criminals now that we've stopped jailing those who were harming nobody.  And we're also not wasting enforcement resources on the personal weed stuff, either, so there are cops and lawyers and courtrooms freed up to make sure some real criminals occupy those vacant cells.

After we get to work on that, then we can really roll up our sleeves and try and use education, intervention, and social support to prevent more criminals from being made in the first place.

I seem to remember that there's a program that takes frequent small-timers (criminals) and pays them not to do the dew.

Ya know, a few months back I watched a video on YouTube about resolving workplace conflicts and one of the issues they mentioned was that smart people intimidate and irritate less intelligent people even though they don't try to. This ongoing, threat-of-violence bullshiat sounds like the same thing, but much more extreme. Except the people making death threats are even dumber than your coworkers. Although these days they just might be your coworkers. It's hard to tell.

Is there a way to opt into having your entire internet footprint monitored by the PATRIOT ACT.

Maybe it would discourage the terrorists.

There needs to be a better response than "hurf durf buy a gun" from Officer Onlyhammers.

Yes and it goes like this:

"Wear a mask"
"STOP CHOKING ME!"
"Get a vaccine"
"A vaccine will KILL ME DEAD"

"Take a bath?"
"How dare you threaten to drown the spiders living in my eyelashes you unreasonable monster!"

Help = death according to the idiots.

If you're ok at computers, what you could do is create a Kali Linux bootable flash drive. Kali comes with Wireshark and Blue Scarab already active and most of the obvious ports blocked.

Wireshark monitors everything connecting to you and Blue Scarab monitors everything on your system sending things out and will check with you before actually sending stuff. Using those 2 programs and the terminal (Linux's command prompt) you can accomplish a lot.

/ just be careful because you can get yourself in a lot of trouble

// use a bootable drive so your mistakes are only a new boot away from being fixed

He would have probably not been put into permanent house arrest if he actually got his inner lumberjack on and put on women's clothing and started hanging around in bars.

He said that the Pope was wrong to said Pope's face whilst in Italy. In a word? Unadvisable.

That's ancient for video games.
But don't fret, it's still a very popular game.

Pressure Nintendo and Microsoft to release that shiat on Switch. Get some kids to stop playing Among Us with Kremlin spies because they absolutely are!

It's actually pretty straightforward. Get yourself a 32gb usb 2.0 flash drive. Google "Kali Linux", "bootable Linux flash drive" and "enable legacy booting". There should be some pretty decent instructions that even someone who is totes garbo can follow.

The hard part is interacting with The Terminal. But, there's some decent resources floating around on the web.

/ you get a usb 2.0 flash drive because modern machines are backwards compatible and old machines would freak if you plug in something modern

// you can order them on Amazon

This is simple, you make a death threat, you spend 30 days in jail.

I mean, I'm not into your kink, but i loves me some sammiches.  Who the hell don't love sammiches?  The things I'd do for people in the neighborhood for some sammiches.

You can have a chicken sammich, Like fried or smoked or, let's face it anything else is turrible unless brined first.  You can have a roast beast, with au jus unless you're a horrible person.  If you like ham you can do that, if you like spam you can screw that.  Peanut butter and jelly, that's an old favorite, but you better spruce it up.  A good grilled cheese, with something other than just cheese slices made the American way, I mean have you tried Brie?  It's amazing. Toasties they call it in hobbit land, and by that I mean Weird English.  Deli meat and a salad on toast is tolerable, but not something i'd try to make at home.

Sammiches can be amazing, they can be expensive, they can be terrible.
