Their lead character in the Carmen Mola novels is detective Elena Blanco, a "peculiar and solitary woman, who loves grappa, karaoke, classic cars and sex in SUVs"

I am surprised that it turns out the author is actually horny old guys.

And Jane Auten was a huge Yorkshireman with a beard like a rhododendron bush. James Boswell is the only real woman writing at the moment, and that's just because she wants to get inside Johnson's britches.

Men writing romance novels under female names was fairly common in past decades. This article even collects the most prominent names: https://sweetsavageflame.com/2021/10/10/the-male-authors-of-vintage-romance/ .  This is the first case I've come across in a different genre but I bet such cases will be more common in the future as women authors are starting to dominate in a variety of genres besides romance.

And we learn that it takes three Spanish men to be as good as one Spanish woman.

If I become a famous author, on my book tours I'll hire local randos to pose as me for interviews, readings and book signings.

So this is cool, but the comic guy who pretended to be Asian is still bad, right?

Ooh just say you're a recovering addict.

Easy as hell to find tweakers in most major cities that will do anything for a couple bucks.

/was just propositioned in SLC outside a hotel room last week.
//we won't even talk about my last hotel on Oahu.

Keep perspective.
Do you think the authors started it all with a desire to hide who they are from us just for the lols?
Or is it maybe that the judgemental audiacne created the situation, that they won't accept your art, unless you personally have passed judgement first. Then and only then will the audience be open to accepting and judgeing your art, through the lends of who they imagine you are, not just as the art standing on its own.

70'-80's sci-fi calling. How many publishing houses is it easy to imagine "this is some good sci-fi honey, but we need to run this out under a more male sounding author's name if we're going to try and make any real money on this work."

Pretty sure the female author running out her work under a male sounding name is less about her wanting to dupe people, and more about how the people are prejudiced prejudgement assholes really.
And then really with the exception of the people that want to write but not be famous, writing under a false name is basically a common practice, and is done largely DUE TO THE AUDIENCE'S DEMANDS, far more than on the side of the writers. Who like all artist, just wanna pay rent making their art really, so they, like everyone with bills to pay, does what they have to do.
Especially when you realize, we have no civilization, only the jungle so everyone does what they have to do to get by.

The jungle = You have food, shelter, and water today, because you competed well enough to have them for yourself.
Civilization = You have food, shelter, and water today, because you cooperatively worked with the others in your civilization to guarantee those things to yourself and every member of the civilization.

Well, did you have the basic needs of life guaranteed from your efforts, or were those things only yours if you manged to do well enough for yourself?

I've heard of multiple authors working under a pseudonym before*, but this is ridiculous.

* Why do the authors of The Expanse do it, does anyone know? It's not like they're even trying to keep it a secret

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out why appropriating one form of marginalization is bad while another one is okay.

For some reason I remember H. Jon Benjamin (voice actor for Archer) bringing in a bodybuilder who could lip-sync him live for a convention appearance.

You know him from his voice, you never see him in the flesh, so why not?
