69 jersey.  Crushing beer on the field.  I am not a Purdue fan, but this man has my respect.

Hoban Washburne: 69 jersey.  Crushing beer on the field.  I am not a Purdue fan, but this man has my respect.

As someone said in the Twitter thread, this will be a poster in damn near every Purdue dorm room across the campus (and a lot of campuses not named Iowa). Probably by Monday.

It's a badass capture and that should win some sports photo prizes as well.

Purdue radio guys were laughing about it and dancing around what happened after the beer hit the field.  Nice to see the visual I was visualizing.

Iowa blew their chance at the title, big time. All the rest of their games are cupcakes.

They never had a chance. Not on any planet in this universe or any other.

It was Bud Light.  That's not really beer and he found a good use for it.  Pouring it out ànd cooling himself off so he could enjoy a real beer later.

I was an NCAA athlete in a very non-money sport. I'm not going to say we didn't bring alcohol on the bus to competitions or otherwise drink during travel. However, one time one of my teammates brought champagne to a major competition, with a plan to spray the coach if we won. We won. The teammate's parents saw the champagne, took it saying "thanks for holding on to that for me", and correctly pointed out that had we had any alcohol on us, the NCAA could and likely would forfeit us even after everything was done. I don't think it's a good rule, but if I were the Iowa coach, AD, etc. I'd be doing everything I could to force a forfeit here. Dumb, dumb player.

It was thrown on the field by a fan.

I don't think this cunning plan would work out in Iowa's favor.

Also, college football polices itself save the most egregious of circumstances. And even then, if say for example you're the right SEC team whose state starts with an A or an F, you're good to do literally anything.

At last Alabama and Ohio State will finally get a chance to be in the playoffs now.

It's a perfectly acceptable beer to drink when you don't want to get drunk, or buzzed, or feel any anything at all.
Bud and coors are my go-to "heavy machinery operating" beers.

Not only that, but that version of "real man" Len Dawson would last about 2 seconds on an NFL field now. Not that he'd even make a team, but if you put him out there

PSU is not that good.  They're not awful (I see them ending in the mid-teens or early 20s at season end), but they're not "top-10" good.

- They barely beat Wisconsin in Wisconsin (The Badgers are terrible this year, but we didn't know that at the time) requiring 3 defensive stands in the last 4 minutes
- They beat a MAC team at home
- They barely beat Auburn at home.  Auburn is not as good as people thought, but they're starting to turn it around.
- They beat a 1AA (or FCS or whatever their called) but didn't crush them like a top-tier team should.
- They shut out Indiana at home.  Normally I'd say "but it's Indiana", but after last year, this win was the first time they looked GOOD.
- They lost by 3 to Iowa on the road.  I could (and probably would) argue that if PSU didn't lose 3 key players (including their QB) to injuries during the game, they come out of Iowa City with a win, but we don't live in hypothetical-land.

The way they played against Iowa led everyone to really believe that PSU was good, but even now, looking at Iowa's schedule, they played even less than PSU did, with their only "tough" game being against an Iowa State team that was horridly over-ranked at the time.

So I think PSU is as bad as last year?  Absolutely not.  But I've watched every game so far and they don't look like a top-10 team.  They have a top-5 Defense, but a middle of the pack offense and an OK special teams.  That will do them well against crappy teams, but we're going to struggle hard against the big 3 (OSU, Michigan, and Michigan State), probably going 1-2 at best in those 3 games (worse if Clifford is out for any extended period).

I was a little bummed when Iowa lost because I was kinda rooting for them. But this definitely takes the sting away.
