Good. Pity I quit drinking alcohol this year.

Day late and a dollar short, Doug.

The beer sold at farmers markets will probably cost more than a dollar.

Give mass concessions to the Big Entertainment conglomerates while shiatting on the media for daring to ask him about his BS commitment to small businesses.

Not the biggest or worst thing he's done but one of the more recent, man I can't wait to vote his ass out.

Me too but he might sneak in again since the left vote is so split and both the NDP and Lib leaders are so meh.

Half of Ontario probably couldn't even name the Lib leader.

The fact that we elected Doug Ford to run this province is something you should absolutely hold anyone from Ontario to account for if they start acting superior.

Doug Ford wants you to be drunk so it's easier for him to get away with no good.

From what my puny American brain understands about Doug Ford, he seems to be a Canadian DeathSantis or some such GQP.

Hose yourselves down in Canadian marijuana topicals, remain vigilant.

But I've really been enjoying this $1 beer that has suddenly became available everywhere after he "hereby proclaimed" and such as.

Also those farmer's market people can get pretty rowdy.

Then there is the fact they won't be as alert when an old inevitably plows into them (as is the custom) with a powder blue Lincoln Continental.

The man really gets my needs and concerns.

We need ranked choice or something similar.  FPTP does not accurately reflect the electorate.  In theory, with three parties fielding candidates in all ridings, you could get 34% of the vote and 100% of the seats.  That should not be a possible outcome when we know there's a better system.

I know the government's spin on allowing local brewers more places to sell beer: "This should help small craft businesses." And yeah, a provincial election is happening next year, so look for more populace-appeasing in the short-term. Frankly, I doubt this move is going to sway any undecided voters.

But in fairness, though ... this move could benefit the produce-vendors at farmer's markets, as new customers will show up for booze and end up taking some fresh fruit and vegetables while they're at it.

I think the man's an embarrassment and should never have been elected, but he's not actively trying to kill us.  He just waffles a lot between doing the typical conservative thing of putting business first and the 'leader in a pandemic' thing of telling us to get vaccinated and stop gathering in large groups.

Definitely keep an eye on the situation.
Business first dehumanizes citizens and slides into fascism fast.

Del Duca said recently he wants to bring in ranked choice if elected. That system would likely benefit Liberals the most so I can see why.

London had an election using ranked ballots, Ford barred any municipal government from doing it again when he found out.

In Canada, using the Hero tag for that Dumb Fark has the same tone as using it for TFG.

He doesn't deserve praise. He doesn't even deserve modest praise. He's a charlatan, dressed up like a human being, that wants everyone in Ontario to die for their hubris of wanting to live and eat.

No, that would be Jason Kenney, Premier of Alberta. Ford is a pro-business right wing populist asshole but he's not as depraved as DeSantis. Generally speaking, with very few exceptions, conservatives here aren't nearly as horrible as yours.

Nah, Kenny and Moe out in Alberta and Saskatchewan are our Abbott and de Santis.  Douggie's less hardline right-leaning and more of a slimy fake populist (he's a rich kid grifter and opportunist).  Douggie's Canadian centre-right so more in line with a skeevy centrist corporate Democratic governor.

That's news to me. I think he's done a decent job I don't even think about him which is what Canadians expect in a politician. His big challenge has been Covid and he's done alright balancing restrictions with keeping things open and around 84% of all eligible people have been fully vaccinated and he was very vocal about the importance of vaccinations. Given the low expectations for him I'd say he's done a good job overall certainly a C and his work to bring Ontario's booze laws into the mid 20th century is if anything more important than his covid efforts.

I went to a farmers market in BC once. It was amazing. They had a bunch of food trucks there and a few breweries. The breweries couldn't really sell beer to drink, but they could do growler fills and if you happened to bring your own cups, and weren't super obvious about filling them from the growler, no one really cared.

This documentary is a few years old and slightly dated (we started seeing beer sales in grocery stores a while after it was released, for example) but it gives those who aren't familiar with Ontario and how we sell alcohol a really good history and explanation (like how taxes make up a significant part of the total price) of our system up to ~2014

I'm all for liberalization of how we sell alcohol in this province, but most of what Doug has done around hasn't worked or only impacts a minority of consumers (non-existent $1 beer, to go sales for bar and restaurants, allowing the sale of alcohol to start at 9am instead of 11am)

Beer wasn't already available at Ontario farmers' markets?  Huh. I've seen wine being sold at them for at least a year.  Weird that beer (which is generally less than half the strength of wine) was never approved until now.

Will cocaine be sold too, as a chaser for the beer, in honor of his brother?

Oh great. Now they'll not only have seniors crashing their cars into farmers markets because they're senile or blind, but also because they're drunk.

wine usually has more, fancier, and more politically powerful money backing it, so it usually gets legal accommodations before and beyond beer
