I've really liked Robert Pattinson in everything I've seen him in, from Harry Potter to The Lighthouse.

I've never seen a Twilight movie, though.

The Batman. You have to love the creative sequel titles they put out nowadays.

Are we really going to insist on calling it the first trailer when a year ago we had a trailer length teaser?

Dude's a really good actor who stupidly hitched his wagon to a terrible franchise but it got him name recognition.

The rest looks great though.

He got paid and we all know his name. I'd say mission accomplished.

The trailer for The Batman looks the good to the me.

If the movie gets half-finished and really sucks, the studio has a plan for what to do.

It's simple. They uh, kill "The Batman."

So I get that he has body armor but shouldn't he at least fall down when shot with a machine gun instead of just standing there like RoboCop? The whole trailer is lit with a cell phone so I guess I missed something.

(Just kidding, we know there's no movie shiatty enough for current DC to actually pull the plug on, but the joke was too good to pass up).

SO MUCH THIS ^^^

i mean, sweet, merciful FSM... why not give him jet boots and repulsor rays while you're at it? Complete the farking circle since Iron Man was Marvel's Batman....

I know you and I have disagreements, but I've been trying to explain this point all day since the trailer hit. Batman is a ninja. He relies on stealth, tactics, and strategy. He does not just 'LEEEEEEROYYYYYY JENKINS!!!!' through mobs of henchmen like he's farking Kal-El...

It's bad enough when they try to make a Superman movie with Batman aesthetics (dark lighting, dark color palette, grim/bleak), now they're making a Batman movie with Superman story beats?

Thank you. That was my thinking, too. He's supposed to be a stealthy, intelligent, strategic-thinking detective. Instead it's another movie that is basically Fast & Furious style with a dumbed down James Bond in a high tech, bulletproof bat suit.

Why can't WB get the DC characters right outside of animated movies and video game cutscenes?

Berlanti did a good job at the start of the Arrowverse. He just didn't move past the 'secret leads to conflict within the team' trope every season.

But to your point...

Warner Brothers can't keep their executives out of the creative process for the big projects. Animated Series? So what, that's not an EP credit that can get me a vacation home. Someone wants to do a Green Arrow TV Series? Like anyone's gonna watch that...So, the small project fly under the radar, to start off.

Once the businessmen start deciding they can make creative decisions, the project is doomed. See: Kevin Smith's infamous 'who is this Kal-El guy?' story when he was still attached to write the Superman revival movie in the late 90's/early 00's.

The hope I had with Pattinson doing the role is that a slimmer, younger Batman sorta implied the sneakier, ninja-ier detective take and not WWE wrestler one we've been seeing. This is not getting me interested in seeing the movie - it looks like a return to Old Snyder DC.

2021-10-17 3:54:20 AM
The batsuit as portrayed on Batwoman is completely bulletproof, though the wearer may feel a little bruised afterwards.. and that suit is far less bulky.

Still, I remember playing Batman: Arkham Asylum, and I sure didn't feel bulletproof at all in that.

Writing Batman as a detective or scientist is too hard. Just make him an indestructible RoboCop, it's much easier.

I guess you haven't played a Batman game in the last decade. It's all about fighting mobs of goons.

Yah that is the Batman translation from the comics I never understood. Batman was 'never' bulletproof. I remember he always put himself in positions that he avoided gunfire or disabled his opponents before they could get a shot off. I've seen him use acrobatics to avoid fire, too, but not a bulletproof costume. Kinda dumb the bullets bounce off of him and he ignored it.

Also he exists in world without snipers or any concept whatsoever of long range directed fire.

If they ever make a live-action Batman that doesn't have exposed eyes, and instead has the white shatterproof HUD lenses like he's supposed to, I'll be impressed.

Instead, it's always the same thing: Guy with eye shadow and cut-out holes for his eyes. So dumb.

I agree with that. They did that for a few minutes in...The Dark Knight maybe? Anyway, it looked better.

But he's always had white eyes. What about in the comics before there was a concept of a HUD display? How did he see? Same with Spider-Man.
