I have actually seen that before. One of my roommates for 2 years in college was a capuchin. She'd eat snap peas exactly like that, including what looked like a pissed-off expression.

I think it is a case of Monkey see, monkey do. It is bored. It has seen "mommy" doing this. So it is doing it. It will earn praise as reinforcement. Like little children ask to help. Mommy, I want to help. Even though they can't.
