I swear, I read "fared" as "farted" and was wondering if there was some sort of major rise in the use of fiber in foods in those ten years.

How well would they have done? Not very, if the experience of their great-grandparentsis any guide.

Psychosomatic conditions became rampant in urban Britons subject to nightly bombing raids. The case of Hull (in Yorkshire) is best documented, in a report made to the British government in 1941 that remained classified till 2020.

Interesting how for most generations, once they start getting seats, there is a rapid rise.  For Gen X it has leveled off.  Sure the data is low, but I bet the genX and millennial curve to the graph stays low for a while, since the boomers are extracting life saving and extending resources from those generations.

Now that I think about it, boomer mentality led directly to punk rock and the disaffected attitude of Gen X. Plus speaking as an Xer, the heightened tensions and distinct threat of nuclear war between the US and USSR was very stressful.  Farking Reagan.

Boomers are being selfish in power and resist retirement, even when it would benefit their own party.

The ones from the Greatest Generation I knew complained that they were the Sandwich generation taking care of their parents before they died, but then had to help out with grandkids. They were always angry about caring for grandkids, they believed the kids should take care of parents. Weird old Italian American family dynamics.

Food rationing didn't end until 1955-56. But then there's always a hard recession once a war ends and the government stops writing checks to half the factories in the country.

Didn't happen in the USA because we were producing the stuff most of Europe and Asia needed to recover. We did see a recession once it became clear we were pulling out of Vietnam.

Oh, ok.

In that case, it's been that way since the dawn of time, just like older generations complaining about "kids these days".

The difference now is that the Baby Boomers refuse to retire or die.

Jesus my parents' friends.. these are people born after the war, who grew up in one of the cushiest times, never really had any struggle at all. Partied it up like animals through the 60s and early 70s too, totally feckless. Their kids were damned feral bastards too.

Now you would think they ate their ration books in the blitz or something and they brought their kids up like the von trapp family.

Correct.  They're getting old-old now, but yeah, 15-20 years back we had lots of Silents buying Brokaw's book and yammering on and on about FDR and WWII.  And it's like "Gramps - you were 9 gotdamn years old on VJ Day, you can stop preening around like you won the damned thing!"

My experience has been that the Silent Generation were the worst of all. But they never had the power the Boomers have, so maybe that's the difference.

As an Xer, Silent Generation types were most of the teachers I had growing up, and most of the people we interacted with. They had all the arrogance of having won World War 2 and created the booming economies of the 50's and 60's, without having done any of the actual work or sacrifice. The Boomers learned their attitude from the Silents.
