That movie was perfectly cast. Christina Ricci should have won an Oscar. Especially for the second one.

Although I do think Christina Ricci makes a great Morticia today.

And on the right is Mercedes McNab, who later played Harmony in Buffy.

And amusing/creepy is that the asshole summer camp boss was Peter McNichol, who a few years later played Ricci's boyfriend on Ally McBeal.

She seems to get that a lot. In Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Johnny Depp yells at Benicio del Toro for giving acid to a "child", Ricci. A year later she was Johnny's love interest in Sleepy Hollow.

Interesting idea, but Ricci is too short for Morticia I think. When I think Morticia I think of a near 6' tall slender woman (Angelica Huston was 5'10''). Ricci is barely 5'1''.

Rewatched both of them last Halloween. Afterwards, we pulled out my grandfather's Chaz Addams books and compared the original cartoons to the recreated scenes in the movie we just saw.

On a related note, the Addams Family music from Marc Shaiman, as well as much of the music of Danny Elfman (Pee Wee's Big Adventure, etc.), is all very heavily influenced by the music of an obscure modern classical composer named Alfred Schnittke. Check this out!

An interesting contrast between them was how Wednesday was sweet and innocent, yet still macabre in the comics. Like everyone else, I prefer Ricci's portrayal of her, but the original one still works.

Ricci's Wednesday has almost nothing to do with the comic's Wednesday, but she's still the breakout character in an entire cast of breakout characters so you just kinda let it slide

Also, John Aston and Raul Julia were much smoother and cooler looking than the original comics and current cartoon version.

I remember going into the first movie with low expectations. Then I remember going into the second one with low expectations. Was so pleasantly surprised each time. From the acting to the tone and tempo and production they are so tight, so good. And they did it again. Definite roots in the comics and tv , but the right differences to make a feature length enjoyable. Also, always has a weird thing for Joan cusak, so there was that too.
