He's got to be a real wizard the way he keeps befuddling the minds of the admins to greenlight essentially the same story over and over and over again.

It's pretty clear to me what's going on here. They figured out that he'll do his bit whether they pay him or not.

A wizard is never late. Well, except for this late 'wizard'.

Jumpthruhoops: This repeat thread is pointless, so I might as well hijack it. I need a title for the leader of a wizard college. It can't be an archimage because he is going to fight an archbishop. My D&D players have been toppling governments left and right and they are on their way to the wizard tower to goad them into fighting the church.

I would appreciate any help here.

Grand Magus?

qorkfiend: How did the wizard college evolve? Did it start small and grew over the years, sponsored by some state, etc?

Magic used to be common and there will little schools in every major city. About 70 years ago, a wizard opened a portal to another plane and a ton of underdark creatures came through it. There was a huge war and in the end, one of the churches convinced the emperor to ban magic (except for cleric / paladin of course). The remaining wizards gathered together in a tower and live there. They are a rogue state that the empire puts up with as long as they don't practice magic outside of the tower.

Chthonic Echoes: Handing cosmic reality-bending powers to a pack of undergrads is an invitation to turn your campus into a smoking crater, if it doesn't end your civilization entirely.

That's pretty much what happened. The society is still rebuilding from it two generations later. One of the players is causing it all to happen again. He texts me things he's doing on the side that the other players don't know about. He will be the final bad guy in the campaign.

The views are split. Most agree that magic should be restricted, but think the empire went too far in banning it. Some think the church is using the ban to gain more power. They aren't entirely wrong. The church has been secretly poisoning towns and then sending priests in to heal everyone to gain support. The players figured this out and decided that open war between the wizards and the church would be easier than taking on a high level war priest and her goons.
