AMC!  AMC!

I just realized there are only 48 stars on this car.  It does have 13 red stripes though.

AMC certainly became a punchline. But the early 70's were different.

A guy I knew in high school had a Mark Donahue Javelin. It was a badass car.

My (now) wife drove an AMC Concord when we first began dating in the 80s. It was a 4 speed stick, triple black with vinyl seats and no A/C. In the summertime, if you wore shorts, you'd need skin grafts after sitting in it. The gas gage needle would get hung up around 1/4 tank causing her to run it out of gas a couple times. When it rained hard, it wouldn't start.

Yes, fond memories.

In addition to the AMC cars, pretty sure that rusting hulk is a Volvo 444 sedan:

I recognized it, because as I have posted before, my dad had the 445 wagon. We used to see a few 444's on the roads around Atlanta. But the only other 445 we saw was an identical one in Wilson, NC.

Or maybe a World According to Garp 544.

....The Javelin is still the most underrated of the classic US muscle cars.  The Rebel SST shown in TFA is the same model we had, and that so and so was a screamer.

AMC had the ideas, but they could never afford to put them into production at the same level as the Big 3, who would outsell them every time.

With all those cars, you'd have enough spare parts to keep one of them running for months.

I would *love* to have a Matador Barcelona!

Also, the first car I ever drove was an fire-engine red AMC Pacer (my mom's). It was great because there were no blind spots - I'd totally own another one!

I'd love to have a restored AMC Gremlin. I'd get a big Stripe painted on the hood like those Trans Am screaming chickens.

My uncle built one that looked almost exactly like this one with the big spare tire on the roof.

We used to take it below lock and dam 14 on the Arkansas River. One of the best offroad treasures in the country.

I should wait an hour after waking up before I hit Fark. There's just so much of that crap going on it's a reaction.
Yes, that is a dream car.
When someone asks me Ford or GM, I say AMC.
Carry on.

Some verses feel free to add on and get Weird Al on the phone.
Soviet Pie

Drove my Gremlin
to the Kremlin
but the commies were gone
Those Russian boys were drinking Pepsi and sin
Singing this will be the day the west wins
This will be the day the west wins.
September made me shiver
With each newspaper I'd deliver
Good news on the Russian steppes
I couldn't take one more step
And I remember how I swelled with Pride
when I heard how Lenin cried
Something touched me deep inside
The day the commies died

My mom had an AMC Jeep in the 80s before they made their comeback. It was glorious.

My great-aunt had a Pacer. Went driving in it a few times and it was kinda neat, amazing sightlines all around. Of course, then the sun came out...

Aww but you missed out on the learning experience that was Mopar/Chrysler.

I can say my mechanical aptitude came from keeping Jeeps alive or resurrecting them as a teen and young adult.

And FIAT...the best ideas of Chrysler and FIAT engineers...combined!

(it is a hoot in the summer with doors off and top down, though.)

When I was growing up, all of the MN State Trooper cars were brown.  A lot were AMC also, iirc.

Thank gods I bailed before that shiat show.

Really did get fast at swapping transmission on the YJ though.

And I Love TJs, but holy shiat the endless nights and weekends trying to fix the damn things.
