At the very least, I hope our government is doing the exact same goddamn thing to them.

Perhaps it's time for the internet to melt down completely.  At this point, I'd be okay with that.

Literally burning it down and starting over would be AMAZING. For security, speed, crypto-wait no, government needs their back doors. We are boned.

I'm always hearing about these russkie campaigns and how they get people to do their will through online social media whatever-ness.
Can someone provide a de facto example of something like that?  I'm genuinely curious about it.  Am I somehow not seeing what everyone else is potentially being manipulated with?

I'm online all the time and have been for decades yet I managed to (so far) outwit COVID by having common sense and not voting for orange assholes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Russia is balls-out trying to fark shiat up in our country but what propaganda is it?  "You're going to grow a third testicle out of your left ear if you get the Pfizer shot, even if you're a woman" or is it more subtle?

Does someone have an example of what's swaying people?

30 percent of Americans are stupid enough to believe literally anything someone tells them, and at this point, the Russians are only one more mob of crooked salesmen trying to elbow their way to the front of the pack to sell them death, suicide, and lies.

Don't get me wrong, the Russian government is doing everything they can to get us to kill each other, but at this point they're bit players compared to the GOP, the NRA, Facebook, and all the other right-wing psychopaths trying to burn everything down in the name of reigning in hell rather than serving in heaven.

The voices in my head tell me I'm supposed to be a vegetable because I was used for target practice and I'm supposed to die soon to make the price of bitcoin go up. A sacrifice.

It's really enragingly obnoxious to hear constant creepy trolly baloney, loud or at a whisper.

I've tried being obedient and respectful towards them enough times over the years that I know it's a fool's errand to take them seriously. Hearing voices makes me cuss in my mind, and I don't get to pick the cuss words either, it's always ones I've heard people yell when I was really young and had no freedom of association.

One example: They make many many many posts via their troll farms that reinforce the bias of the cult. You have seen some here. And they are on Fox, Facebook and everywhere else posting how they agree with the cults beliefs and how everything Dem is evil. The more people think the world agrees with them, the more they "know" they are in the right.

To what end?

The goal of Russian internal propaganda and other forms of weaponized unreality (and memetic warfare) isn't to convince anyone of one viewpoint or another.

It is to destroy the concept of knowable, verifiable truth. To make all new fake news. To enwrap and enmesh you and everyone else in a fog of confusion that no one, anywhere, can penetrate.

Russia is already there. Has been, for a long minute. What could we do that would untangle that for them, start over with arithmetic and work our way up through the periodic table and on to more abstract concepts? It wouldn't succeed. Hell, we'd get to the periodic table and some dimwit reeking of vodka and cabbage would point out that europium and americium prove the whole thing is faked, is threatening encirclement and is tantamount to a color revolution anyway ... and we'd be back where we started. Actually we'd be worse off: The Russians who realized SCIENCE! would all end up jailed.

What that means for their victims and collaborators here, witting or otherwise, I leave to someone else to detail. And how we get outta this mess I have zero idea.

Short term copyright terms patch the disinformation problem.

14 years was the original term length and that's plenty.

Incentivize the profitability of common folk propagating scientific information that is only 14 years out of date.

I do not know of a single trump worshiper that if putin dropped trow in front of them, they would not drop and gobble putin's tiny mushroom juice like it's the best Boone's Farm they have ever had.  Granted they would have to drop to their bellies given that putin is a midget.  True, some would not be low enough on their enormous bellies, so they would need a couple other magats to lift their legs so that they could rocker in for the money shot.

All of them love putin and putin's kleptocracy.

I seem to recall around 2016 there were a bunch of guys in former USSR countries playing with politics to gain ad revenue and they discovered if they were like the National Enquirer against Hillary their revenue went up. Soon there were a lot of copy cat sites and fake stories and it was swallowed hook, line, sinker, boat and submarine by the MAGAts to piss people off.

Because the very nature of propaganda is to instill doubt. Whether it's believable bullshiat, attacking and giving credence to already preconceived prejudices, or just completely upending everything you knew with new sources of "information". So when you go looking for a justification for your reasons and trying to find an outlet for frustrations, there's this little nefarious jimminy cricket whispering sweet nothings.

There was an interview posted either here or reddit the other day about some guy that got hired to run multiple websites apearring to be independent but confirming propaganda from each other.
