In reality, at this point anyone immigrating to the US should just assume they're running an above-average risk of being shot compared to similar economies/destinations.  Other countries have issued travel advisories about our gun violence, and legally several states do allow anyone to shoot you as long as they can credibly claim they feared for their safety (i.e., as long as they kill you and avoid there being witnesses).

So basically stick to blue states if you do come, especially if you're not light-skinned or don't speak American English.  I say that not politically but matter-of-factly; red states are filled with unwritten rules of social interaction that, if broken, can be life-threatening at this point.

I kid.  It will be nice to be able to see people I haven't seen since the pandemic started.  And if you aren't vaccinated, be smart and don't travel.  And if you aren't vaccinated, but can get it, get it and help stop this.

As a fully vaxxed Canadian, it would be great to be able to drive down to the States to visit friends and take in the odd event.

As a fully vaxxed Canadian with young children, there's no way in heck I'm travelling there with my family and exposing my children to the risk associated with a state (Minnesota) where only 59% of people are fully vaccinated and the 7-day average in new covid casis is 508.1 per million. Compare that to 85% fully vaccinated here and 7-day average of 31.6 per million.

Maybe after I can get my children vaccinated, which can't happen soon enough.

So, basically this "opening" is just to let the snowbirds go south.  Has no effect for people that just want to cross the border for the day.  Good thing Justin had the election before this decision was made.  (I live at the NY/QC border and running across for something was not a big deal...until it was). You'll be labeled a racist when you say a black guy with a gun is more likely to kill people than a white guy with a gun, but those are the facts.

Gee, that wouldn't be related to the fact that crime and poverty are causally related, would it? Or that Blackness and poverty are as well, due to America's entrenched racism and classism? Nah, I'm sure it's just that Negroes are just naturally more violent than the inherently genteel white man.

You were the one who brought race into this, and insinuated that listing those four cities specifically were because of their racial makeup. Then, when proven that they are the top four cities, you pivot over to 'poverty' and start calling people racist directly.

Wow. Just wow.

Oh there is it's.  The last vestiges of a dead argument. "You are a racist".  The ultimate defense against facts.  Maybe if you threaten to hold your breath until we agree with you that will work you child.

You started the argument, were shown facts that disproved it and you act like a petulant 13 year old calling people names.

SirDigbyChickenCaesar: ItHurtsWhenIDoThis: SirDigbyChickenCaesar: koder: In reality, at this point anyone immigrating to the US should just assume they're running an above-average risk of being shot compared to similar economies/destinations.

1 St. Louis, MO (69.4)
2 Baltimore, MD (51.1)
3 New Orleans, LA (40.6)
4 Detroit, MI (39.7)

I guess just don't go to any blue cities.

Your data is old. As of 2020 most dangerous:
1. Anchorage, Alaska
2. Memphis, Tennessee
3. Lubbock, Texas
4. Detroit-Dearborn-Livonia, Michigan

And also they should be ok with being vaccinated.

People who actually want to do and see things vacation in a city, as those things exist there.

People who want to do nothing for a period of time vacation in rural areas, as rural areas have lots of nothing.

We came back this summer; with my American passport, my wife was able to travel with me. Flight from Frankfurt was 75% American tourists returning from Europe and then families like mine. Until this point you had to either be American (or family to one) or have an existing Visa and most tourists in the EU have relied on ESTA for years, so they were excluded.

Funny thing how you had to show proof of a negative test result regardless of already being vaccinated to enter the US, but then when you connect domestically, there are no tests or checks. Just an announcement you can't use a gator as a mask.
