Also fark:  During the Holocaust, Nazis referred to Jews as rats. Hutus involved in the Rwanda genocide called Tutsis cockroaches. Slave owners throughout history considered slaves subhuman animals. In Less Than Human, David Livingstone Smith argues that it's important to define and describe dehumanization, because it's what opens the door for cruelty

I don't know...at this point I'm starting to warm up to cruelty (never thought I'd say that).  I'm so sick of anti-vaxxers, covidiots and general entitled assholes farking things up for the rest of us, extending and spreading the plague and then seeing tons of articles saying "we need to be compassionate.  We need to understand and compromise"

NO!  What we need is consequences.  Legal and societal.  Convict them.  Fire them.  They're friends?  Ghost them...or tell them to GTFO.  They're family?  Disown them.

MAKE.  IT.  HURT.   Give them consequences.

Like cruelly exposing an entire community to a lethal pathogen?

Asshole plague rat broke a hotel quarantine and went to a grocery store?

They should deport him to wherever he is from and let him off about half way there.   He can swim the rest of the way, or maybe walk if he sticks the landing.

I am fully in favor of punching Nazis *and* letting them drown in their own lung goo.

The only good plague rat is a dead one.

Dehumanization helps a population deal with a threat that would normally disarm them with empathy.

The plague rats are a legitimate  threat, and it's a necessary thing to dehumanize them so we can defend ourselves against them.

It's not like they're being singled out as scapegoats, or for something over which they have no control.

If someone catches this thing, it'll be traceable to him, right? Would he be on the hook for medical costs or even loss of life?

Fine. I propose we stop referring to COVID spreaders as "Plague Rats" and begin referring to them as "assholes."

Better?

I, for one, am increasingly in favor of bringing back the practice of boarding up the Covidiots' homes, with the Covidiots still inside.  Just like many city-states did during the Black Death.

That's exactly what they're doing, deporting him back to the mainland.

That's half of what they should be doing.   The other half would be "dropping his ass in the middle of Bass Straight and letting him swim home."

I don't get it.

Are you pining for the "Good Ole Days?"

As for the Nazis, I'm no historian but I believe there were several years a while back where most of the world was competing to kill as many Nazis as possible.

I think modern day Nazis would consider punching a pretty positive upgrade.

Nazis and antivaxxers are natural allies.  In fact, Nazi ideology is explicitly opposed to mass vaccination, because they believe that disease is a natural way to remove the weak, "undesirable" members of a society.

Destructor: Unsung_Hero: It's not like they're being singled out as scapegoats, or for something over which they have no control.

Honestly, Unsung_Hero, I'm beginning to wonder about that.

My boss is an anti-vaxxer. Don't get me wrong: He's smart in pretty much every other way. But an idiot when it comes to this shiat.

I asked him, would he turn down $10m to get vaccinated (some idiot sports player did this). He said yes. I asked how much money would it take for him to get vaccinated. No amount. He'll never do it.

So okay, moving on. Would you take molnupiravir if you got a bad case of covid. "Yes".

Explain that to me. The vaccine is too new to trust, but the experimental anti-viral is okay. So, reject 100ug of vaccine, but okay to go with milligrams of experimental drug. I got no response.

Point is: Perhaps some people are just born with peculiar forms of insanity.

The bolded part is where you are having issues.  Your boss is not smart.  Your boss is an functioning idiot.    He is like a well trained dog.   He can do what he is told pretty well, but he isn't ever going to figure shiat out on his own.

I've heard similar stories that have tested positive and flat out not quarantining.  Well.. that's kind of a lie, they would quarantine until they wanted to go out to get food, go to the store, or just get out of the house.
