SpaceX will be flying to Mars before these other guys get to orbit.

Hey, engineering the additional seating for Stewart, Brooks, and Mulgrew takes time.

Wrong company. Darth Bezos' Blue Origin plans to fly again later this year. And it has room for Shatner, Stewart, Brooks, Mulgrew, Bakula, and Martin-Green if they are all able and willing to pay up.

/No Babylon 5 stars please. They are dying fast enough as it is so we don't want to take any chances.

At least send Tron.

Last tourists on SpaceX got to orbit for three days at ab altitude higher than the space station. If you can afford a space ride, while would you even go to Virgin or BlueOrigin ?

Pointy Tail of Satan: SpaceX will be flying to Mars before these other guys get to orbit.

-Virgin Galactic has no intent on reaching orbit. It's a near-space thrill ride, and that's all they ever wanted it to be.
-Virgin Orbit -has- put a satellite in orbit (which is more than Bezos can say), even if its methods are impractical and I can't see the venture remaining solvent in the face of growing competition from other small launch service providers (their competition space is RocketLab, Astra, Firefly and Relativity)
-Blue Origin -does- have orbital plans with its New Glen rocket, but.. well.. just ask Tony Bruno how long he's been waiting for the BE-4 engines that's supposed to power it. No concrete human-rated orbital craft, though.

..so as far as US human-rated orbital vehicles, here's what we have:

-SpaceX Dragon 2: operational and active
-Boeing CST-100 Starliner: first test flight suffered a software error that forced an abort of ISS rendezvous after launch. Second test flight aborted on the pad for what is suspected to be a valve issue. Won't carry people until it's had a successful second test flight, which won't be until spring -at the earliest-.
-NASA Orion: Lunar. Married to the SLS, so if you know anything about THAT program...
-SNC Dreamchaser:  still in development, first launch was intended to be in the spring, BUT.. was intended to be launched on a Vulcan rocket.. which are still waiting for BE-4 engines...

It's $1.4m vs $50m per seat, so you need an extra digit or two in the net worth department.

Branson is extraordinarily lucky in that his luck surpasses his cluelessness. He bought into a dead-end technology path with Virgin Galactic. The only worse investment Branson has made is his investment into hyperloop.

Most people who can afford Virgin or Blue Origin are utterly unable to pay for a trip on a SpaceX dragon capsule. SpaceX charges NASA $55 million per seat. Also, the number of seats SpaceX can offer the public far more limited than Blue Origin.

/Though it might make more sense to buy a trip on the "Space" balloon when it is available. Sure it only goes a third as high as BO, but the trip will last far longer and it will be high enough to clearly see the curve of the Earth.

Three days seems like a long time.

Why are people being mean to poor ol William Shatner for going into space?

Got me wondering:  SpaceShipOne passed the Karman line, why not SpaceShipTwo?

Launching 200lbs into space isn't exactly "free" publicity.

Branson said they would return to flight in 8 months.

Read:  Two years.   If it ever happens.
