I don't care whether it's called Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples' Day. Sure, I know Columbus was a total asshole. But you know what? I bet some Indigenous people were assholes too.

And another, perhaps stronger, piece of evidence we have that possibly it should be called Columbus Day is that famous heroic couplet "In fourteen-hundred and ninety-two / Columbus sailed the ocean blue." Try substituting Indigenous People in there for Columbus and you'll quickly find that it really doesn't fit the couplet's meter.

Yeah, it's terrible when people tell you that you're acting like an assh*le, in the hopes that you will take it as a sign to take the opportunity to grow as a person. I mean, socialization...who thought that was a good idea?

In other news Hitler and Stalin weren't too swell but neither were some of the people they murdered.

So -- any shift in values, any change in perspective is "cancel culture" in their mind.

The Republicans have an "academia" problem, then.

We can and should feel free to start on South Carolina, though.

And that river in Washington, too.

True.

Columbia, South Carolina is proof that Ben Kenobi didn't know what he was talking about when describing Mos Isley spaceport.

Columbus's own contemporaries thought he was an asshole/piece of shiat/dickhead.

But, you know, history is just a soup of 'facts' you can hurl at people you don't like. The people who sort out causal relationships and contextual information and interpret evidence are unnecessary elites, and should be dismissed as unimportant to their faces.

/ even friends didn't realize what they were doing
// got awkward when I pointed it out, and noted I had never dismissed their fields
/// sigh

As far as Columbus Day and recognition, Arizona already doesn't recognize it.  When Arizona finally recognized Martin Luther King Day in 1993, Columbus Day got the axe in the process because they didn't want to pay for additional state holidays.

We're up to nearly thirty years of no Columbus Day holiday here.

The Serpent in the Garden of Eden was the first victim of Cancel Culture.  He was just expressing his views on the dietary value of fresh produce and then that woman blamed him after she went and broke the law.  So God cancelled the Serpent's ability to express himself either vocally or through footwear selection.

Actually that's a good point. We have a MLK day, and now Juneteenth. Why don't we have any days off to celebrate important white religious people liked Jesus, or simply a Bible day off, where people can take the day off to read up on the Bible and get closer to the teachings of Jesus.

It takes near zero effort for a viewer to find that this is not true... but they won't because fear porn is so much fun.

Well, he was such an asshole that he got "cancelled" by his own monarch, over 500 years ago.  So he was definitely ahead of the curve.
