The production values are too high. Feels like a generic high school soap with the title. Saved By The Bell tacked on.

I'm certainly not averse to remakes. One Day at a Time on Netflix was good and retained the spirit of the original.

That show was weird but I think kind of good. It had a lot of Saved by the Bell feel to it. But at the same time the show runner was a former 30 Rock writer so there were a lot of Tina Fey type jokes that were really funny.

Replace "Saved By The Bell" with "Riverdale" and your description is more accurate.

I have no idea what you're talking about.  Totally looks like the 90's show.

I'm not sure we watched the same show.

The tounge is firmly in the cheek in this series. The high production value adds to that, kinda like they're picking up where the Vegas movie left off.

The show wasn't nearly as bad as most who didn't see it think, because it poked/mocked the original quite a bit.

The mistake they're bound to make is bringing back the originals more in Season 2 and presenting them more seriously, instead of largely as bufoons, which Season 1 kind of did.

Some of the best jokes were how much of a weirdo loser gym coach Slater was. I am not sure I want to see him get his life on track.

Seeing people whose lives are off the rails get back on track is half the fun of all the sequels/revivals... Characters need to grow.

Not when it's more comedy and social satire.  You're giving a point of view aimed more at drama.

I'm not totally discounting character growth, but the original show, for example, took for granted that Zack was the hero of the show, when he was in fact an awful person.

A few years ago, there was even a series of hilarious YouTube videos called "Zack Morris is Trash".  Here's one of many of them...

This reboot, at least Season 1, leveraged that a bit too.  Extending it a bit to the other characters with Kelly being kind of vain and vapid, Slater being well meaning (he had to be, because he was an anchor character for the reboot) but kind of a meathead.  Jessie being... extra.  It wasn't artful sophisticated satire of the original, but I appreciated the attempt.  Especially since the underlying point was how lame these oldies would look to the current kids.

It was ridiculous and a joke a minute. Very much in the vein of Brooklyn 99 and 30 Rock. Just with Saved by the bell folks tacked on.

I dug it and am excited for season 2.

/no it is not AS good as Brooklyn 99 and 30 Rock
//not much is though

I enjoyed season one. Looking forward to season two.

Dude he plays Devante sure can sing. Gal who plays Lexi brings it.

Slater+Jesse = happiness.

I have to say: I love movies with naked chicks. The more, the better. Seriously though, that movie was so bad, half the videos on Pornhub have better stories.

I always thought it was funny that Corin Nemec (actor) played Jonas Quinn (alien). Seemed to me like it should be the other way around.

Yeah it's weird when I catch the reruns of the classic one when they air on Saturday mornings, it's such low production.   It's only like a few sets an episode too.   The Max and Bayside and maybe someone's room.
