The odds for Manning couldn't be set high enough. Dude doesnt even want to do homebrew color commentary on 16 MNF games in his own basement. only a sucker would think he wants an NFL head coach lifestyle.

Seabass would be great just for the stare he would give the kicker when he shanks a kick.

Every time Janikowski jogged onto the field, I somewhat expected him to have a lot cigarette and a bottle of vodka.

/Still remember a college rugby game where our kicker stepped on the field with a lit cigarette in his mouth.
//He tossed it after walking about 10 feet.

Seriously. He can do commentary whenever he feels like it and spend his time on Nationwide commercials and such

I wouldn't go into coaching if I were him

Given how this job came open, there will be questions about Bienemy's time as an assistant at Colorado.

Back when I played cricket we had a guy Owen who would smoke during the match.  He'd put the cigarette down in the grass before the bowler started his delivery, then he'd retrieve it afterwards to take a few more drags (of course since this was in England there was little chance of starting a fire).

This ended the day I was bowling and got the batter to hit the ball in the air--right at Owen, who'd forgotten to put his cigarette down.  In his effort to jettison the cigarette he dropped the easy catch.  I was not pleased at all and used some not-cricket language, much to the batter's amusement.

/Geez, that was 25 years ago, but telling the story it feels like 125 years ago

Heh...I love it.

Side note:

During that same game against Occidental College, our coach smoke on the sideline during the second half...just because he was that nervous and we were playing a team that was better when it came to conditioning...but we played smarter.

Basically he was puffing away like a father on a 50s sitcom who was in the waiting room to hear about the birth of his child.

/Thankfully, we won that day.

Given his time in the league, that might be why he'd be good as a head coach. Think about it- he's got nobody else on the bench to pay attention to, and he often has to be at least present for the decision-making process in some win-or-lose calls.

Make the big decisions, let your OC and DC do what you hired them for, and make a photocopy of all your former coaches' practice schedules and adjust team meeting times a little bit.

And a former kicker might be a little more willing to let his special teams guys have a chance to show off, especially on stuff like a 75-yard attempt with 0:01 on the clock at the end of the second quarter.

Yeah. He could easily do any sports media job if he wanted to and they'd happily send a dump truck full of money to get him. He's obviously enjoying retirement, doing a few things here and there, and probably still making millions.

One of my friends brothers used to school people on the basketball court, and he would do it with a lit Newport 100 hanging out his mouth. Legend has it, that he even did this to an NBA player that was from the area that many people consider one of the top 200 players to ever play in the NBA

Man. I completely forgot about 100s, let alone Newport 100s.

I would play pretty loose D if there was a possibility of getting a cigarette in the eye.

When Seabass was still kicking for the Raiders, there was a rumor that went around the bay about him farking up his Bentley by driving it through a car wash. Sounded plausible.

This picture of Len Dawson was the first thing to my mind after that comment.  The fact that this was during halftime of the first Super Bowl makes it even better.

Now if that was a beer instead of a Fresca at his feet, it would be perfect.
