And industry will look down on us and whisper "no".

The only way they give a flying f*ck is under rick of imprisonment... if you fine them, they just get the company to pay their fines while they keep getting bonuses and stock options.

They will never listen to you unless you threaten them with harsh penalties. And, you actually enforce them.

Which is to say, nothing will ever change.

According to the article, it's actually industry issuing the warnings, to governments. (Which is to say, they're trying to claim that cleaning up their mess is someone else's job.)

Cool.  Now cut off their campaign funding until they comply. It's going to be amazing how fast they will respond.

The coal industry is the worst about this.  Oil isn't far behind, and industrial farming (The CAFO's) are all just whiny spoiled brats who are mad that their allowance could be taken away if they don't clean their rooms.

Yeah Industry!! Stop doing what you are doing and let the Bitcoin miners have cheaper energy! We don't need fertilizers, fuel for heating and transportation, and plastics.

We want Bitcoin!

You see, the invisible hand of the market means business does not need government regulation, and that's how we all ended up dead.

"Stop making money now or you might not make money later" - yup, good luck with that message.

2fardownthread: We don't need fertilizers, fuel for heating and transportation, and plastics.

If we were remotely smart about things...no, we..um...really wouldn't.

no need for fertilizers:  regenerative farming
heating:  If we ditch fossil fuels, we won't need "fuel" for heating.
transportation.  Tat's happening whether the coal rollers want ti to or not.
plastics:  most plastic things we make now can be done with non-hydrocarbon synthetics, or recycled plastics.

oil and coal are dying.  Not that replacing them with 'bitcoin miners' is much of an improvement...

H&M telling anyone to be more eco-friendly is rich.  Fast fashion is awful for the environment in so many ways.
