I read the entire article and never once did they mention Detroit. They were all Japanese destinations. Submitter fail...

Their's a surprising amount of direct flights to Detroit from Japan, imagine due to the auto industry.

Most of Americas public trains have horrible schedules and are slow, but there are people in Detroit that will take a train even at midnight to go anywhere.

Seeing how I already live in the Detroit metro area, I'm hoping for some old fashioned vending machine soiled panties.

Step 2: sell extra tickets on Ebay
Step 3: profit! (or break even?)

Uhh, from the article:
Not completely random, though. In keeping with gacha protocol, you get one of a set number of possibilities, 12, to be precise, for tickets with Tokyo's Haneda Airport as the start/end of the journey

The first ticket would be able to get you where you wanted.

I admit that Detroit is not for everyone. I love it, though. Among many others, Detroit gave the world Stevie Wonder, Gilda Radner, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Lily Tomlin, Derrick May, Iggy and The Stooges, Aretha Franklin, The Gories, J Dilla, The White Stripes, Anita Baker, and 1/2 of Robin Williams (he was also 1/4 Chicago and 1/4 San Francisco, but he was big enough to share). You're welcome. But there's also the matter of Kid Rock, and for that, we are truly sorry. It's still a great town, though.

Yep, auto industry. Toyota has a major tech center here. Lots of Japanese suppliers have offices here. Only makes sense for there to be lots of flights.

You forgot Vernor's. I honestly don't know why people are talking about ivermectin or hydroxy whatever or zinc and vitamin D to treat Covid. Anyone from Detroit will tell you Vernor's is better than any of those things to get back on your feet when you're sick.

I would go anyplace in Japan at the drop of a hat. No problem. Fun stuff, good food, probably something quirky, totally safe, probably friendly, just relaxing. Taxis, buses, whatever.

Except for one city. I will not name it, but it is absolutely the most boring, barely cultured, goofy, kind of dusty, musty place in Japan with just nothing fun to do. I am not a huge fan of Osaka, but Osaka has this place beat, for sure. If I got one of these bubbles with tickets to this city in it, I would just throw them away, or try to trade them for anyplace else. Yes. Even Detroit. This one city is kind of the Bayonne, New Jersey of Japan. A Bakersfield. A Cleveland. A Stockton.

Anyway. Other than that one city, anyplace would be kind of fun. I want to do some traveling soon. Don't care where too much really, and I guess that explains the random destination appeal.

Why not?  I'm planning a trip to Japan and I'd like to avoid places like this.

Sounds like everyone of note from Detroit ended up getting away from it.  Maybe there's a reason?

Also it's worth getting a connecting flight through Detroit to go through the trippy tunnels b/t terminals on edibles.
