(Some Grinder)   Americans spent less on restaurant food and more on groceries during the pandemic. Grocery store meat is typically cheaper than restaurant grade, so why have meat prices gone up?   (agriculture.com) divider line

Less illegal immigrants to do the butchering?

More expensive grain costs, due to shortages of drivers and processors. Which also affects the supply chain of beef to the butchers, to supermarket. And with more people buying for at home cooking, the supply to the supermarket is bottlenecked and short, causing prices to rise.
Now, try to buy a PS5

Long story really short, because cows have birthdays.

Subby, your headline covers the demand side of the equation.

There is also a supply side.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I, for one, blame the Vegans and say we turn them into steaks.

Because last year butchers shut down and so farmers had to kill their stock.  So while last May all I could find was pork belly there's a shortage of bacon this year.

Dad had a small herd of cattle. I hated going to the butcher/abattoir to pick up the packaged meat because it just smelled like blood.
We'd freeze the majority of it but part was given to our family doctor, as tradition. When I was born the Doctor was paid in steak and every year after that.

Because the processors are pinching both sides of the distribution chain for every farking penny they possibly can.  Next question?

Lots of people who'd be working in the meat packing plants died from the 'rona.

I got my flyer for King Soopers today and they had "on-sale" a one-pound roll of breakfast sausage for $4.99. That much for meat scrapes? That's crazy!

And roasts and marrow bones used to be cheap.  The last bag of marrow bones at a price i was willing to pay had a picture of a dog on the front.

Depends on whether you're talking to a sane person, who views them as individual people, or a Republican, who views them as aggregable units of exploitation.

I think I saw the same packaging about two weeks ago. I told my neighbor about that since he has a dog. I guess seeing the dog it didn't occur to me I could use them to cook with. My neighbor pointed that out.

I'll have to check it out. Is it possible it's from sick cattle?
