Some earlier research had suggested that smoking was protective.

Here's the thing about science: no matter how blindingly obvious something may seem, you still need evidence for it.  Evidence can come in many forms, but you need at least some before coming to a conclusion.  Anything else is nothing more than speculation.

Covid actually made me happy when my nasal polyps flared up again.  Blocking that shiat up tight so it can't get into the respiratory system!

Not for nothing, but the Oxford-led research linked in the OP only studied 1649 confirmed infections, 968 COVID-19-related hospitalizations and 444 COVID-19-related deaths even though they also genotyped 421,469 eligible participants.

That research at least hit a few thousand, even if the data might have been somewhat in question. Personally, I'm not so sure 968 hospitalizations is enough to draw such conclusions claimed through the meta-analysis.

Isn't that why people lied and said they were smokers to jump the vaccine line?

Marijuana cures Covid, right?

I've read the names of some of the strains and it sounds like real medicine!
