OMG!  They're taking the risk of paying their workers more. What's next?  Dogs living with cats?

Oh please, they'll give the workers maybe a quarter of the income generated by the price hike, if they are lucky.

If you used to spend $5 now you need to spend six. A barista can wait on a couple hundred customers a day, are the going to get a $12 pay bump?

Cutting executive pay is not an option apparently

I was unimpressed with LeMars when it was 20% cheaper (big, sugary, kinda greasy and tasteless).

This isn't helping.

"each lamar's donut is handmade". ok, how do they put the hole in it?

If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life.  If you REALLY love what you do, you make donuts.

A totally inconspicuous thumb

So the article says the price hike is to pay for the extra costs that have arise because of the pandemic along with employee pay, but the newspaper needs to demonize workers so the headline makes sure readers know who to blame for the higher prices.

Certainly isn't going to be the guys who bought the company for the name, or their hand picked CEO, taking a pay cut. That's just cray cray talk.

"LaMar's Donuts announces 20% price hike in effort to pay employees more " sounds altruistic.  In comparison with the Fark headline, which clearly instructs you who to root for.

Serves them right. LaMar's has always been overpriced with high employee turnover. Fluffy Fresh has always been cheaper and better.

New employees will receive a total of $650 in incremental bonuses if they stay with the company for 180-days. And any employee who refers another job candidate will earn $500 in incremental bonuses if that candidate is hired by LaMar's Donuts and works for 180-days.

$3.60 per day bonus? Are they seriously advertising that as a perk?

Most people aren't naïve enough to believe the price hike has anything to do with paying more.  This is a guy who angered his staff enough to get them all to quit.  This is only about the greed.

Kansas City still has Dunkin, Krispy Kreme, KC Donut Co., and Daylight Donuts.  If LaMar's disappears, they may not be missed.

Shut your mouth. Lamar's, the original location, has the best donuts on the planet. At one point, Jay Leno flew Lamar to his studio for an interview provided that Lamar brought a shirtload of donuts.

I disagree that Lamar's won't be missed, but they are definitely shooting themselves in both feet.

It's very unclear.  If this were a franchise location, I don't think they would be filled with a crew from Denver the next day.  But I would expect a franchise location to have the authority to be dicks while corporate has to follow the playbook.  And raises might not apply to franchises, but prices will be consistent.

"The announcement came less than a week after some employees walked out of a LaMar's location in Overland Park. The employees claimed they were under appreciated, underpaid and overworked. The LaMar's location reopened the next morning with a crew from Denver, according to the company.
LaMar's said it was working on a plan to increase prices so it could pay employees more at all 16 of its corporately owned locations before the walkout on Saturday. The company said the raises may not apply to franchise locations because those locations are under different management."

Working on a plan? How much of a plan does it take to raise prices? Add 20% to each items price and you're done.

Man, must be rough to be a corporation. Especially after all those hard years of destroying smaller businesses through the forceful acquisition of every possible resource and the slow corruption of governments through corporate-funded politicians and military actions to bend all laws so only a few have power and wealth.

Oh well, I guess if everyone votes to be a McWorker in a world that has become a prison, we all have to do it.

Hail Hydra.

Also, considering the manager (no mention of any other managers existing) walked out first, and no mention of any owners or otherwise stepping in to fill, I don't think it's franchised.

I noticed that this type of reporting is the problem with news organizations. They slant a news article to promote a viewpoint.

They've been running a new article about it every day or so for the last week with very little changing between.  The first one was almost entirely quotes from one of the workers and someone who just so happened to show up to the location when a reporter was there & find it was closed, with a sign saying everyone walked.  The first few articles had a tone along the lines of "woe to the workers who weren't treated right".  That was for several days before the parent corp sent out the team from Denver & press release.  Already read enough about it by now so didn't read this one.

Excuse me? Says RITFA that the company brought in a crew from another store. So they obviously have employees. Try again.
