As I understand it, Taco John's copyrighted "Taco Tuesday" and are not hesitant when it comes to setting their lawyers on restaurants who promote their own Taco Tuesdays, even small-town taco joints have been hassled by them.

And it's not like Taco John's is all that great, aside from the deep-fried tater-tots. And even then, you have to be pretty drunk.

Do taco's really need a national day?  It's like national burger day, or national pizza day... those foods don't need to be brought to America's attention.  I would even be fine with international taco day, because there are parts of the world where the tacos aren't as plentiful and people have to go out of their way to make/get one.

I mean if anything, a national "good" taco day would make more sense for the US.  Or even just a national "go to a real Mexican restaurant" day, and I say that as somebody who will occasionally eat at Taco Bell because one near me starts serving lunch at 9:00AM and I work 3rd shift*.

*Believe it or not, you actually get sick of breakfast food after about a year on 3rd shift, it's all that's easily available when you get off work.

The worst taco I've ever had was a 'bacon' taco at a beer fest.  It was basically uncooked pork fat.  I took one bite, opened it up and tossed it in the garbage.  I was still standing in front of the stand.

Oddly enough, that vendor has never been back to the fest.

7-11 is the only one FTFA in our neighborhood, but sad to say their mini-tacos apparently only come with beef.

surprised to see LJS on the list, "At participating locations, choose to have your taco filled with: wild-caught, batter-dipped Alaska Pollock, wild-caught, hand-cut North Pacific Salmon, grilled shrimp or crispy breaded, buttery Norway Lobster Bites." - likely cause some unfortunate digestion, but still sounds tasty in theory. huh, there's actually one across the river, but that's still 45+ miles away, boo.

Yeah, food trucks are actually pretty expensive to operate.  The ones that tend to make it have a really limited menu and are doing as much cooking as possible outside the truck... but really repurposed van.

The full kitchens crammed into a truck are pretty ridiculous.  You're paying 3 times as much for propane as a brick and mortar restaurant pays for natural gas, and probably 4 or 5 times as much for electricity... seeing as how you're buying it as gas, then there's maintenance on the several hundred thousand dollar modified vehicle that would have covered years of rent at a normal restaurant.

I think that trend is dying.  There are a lot of good carryout/sit-down Mexican restaurants that are price competitive with Taco Bell.

My mom used to make fried, corn tortilla tacos when we are little. I loved taco night. Apparently, it wasn't easy to find mild salsa back then, so she would make some with onion soup mix and tomato sauce. We're Hispanic and from Santa Fe, so I'm not sure why that kind of taco sauce happened, but it did.

I grew up in rural Indiana.  My moms tacos always involved black olives.  All Mexican food for white people in the 80s involved olives.  I have no idea why.

I regularly use black olives to stretch the taco meat out. It just... works. Didn't know it's a white people thing, but be grateful I don't use any mayonnaise. Wait... I do use mayo when I run out of taco shells and put the meat and cheese on a hamburger bun.

Now I'm trying to think of a way to make it even more white.

So sell them BOGO and call it 'Taco Two's day" Or give it free with a burrito and call it 'Tacos Too Day'. While your at it; copyright those.

I grew up with that as well, so I see it as totally normal too. what feels odd now I think about it, is I can't for the life of me recall having or even seeing olives on any fake or half-fake Mexican food, in ages.

it definitely tastes fine, and if I were to make a layer dip I'd certainly slice some black olives on top.

actually, tell a lie - I have had it on various "house special"-type nachos at a couple different local pubs.

I have a recipe I call "Soup Toastacos".
Heat up a can of Campbell's vegetable soup with 1/4 can of water.
Make two pieces of Wonder Bread toast
Drink the soup juice
Butter the toast
Place the soup solids on the toast and fold corner to corner to make them into little triangles
Trust me on this.  Don't think.  Just do it.

Again, come to NM. Taco Trucks as far as the rye can see. And I know a few people who own and operate them; it's not nearly as bad to do so as you think it is for whatever reason.
