At first glance, I was like 'the Gladiator is going after Napoleon?'  But they are different movies.

Huh? Didn't Maximus die at the end?

I Ate Shergar: Huh? Didn't Maximus die at the end?

I thought so.. but it's been a long time since I saw it.

He also got fat and obnoxious.

The thing I remember most about Gladiator is that everyone and everything was so grim.

I don't think anyone smiled once in the whole movie.

Why? I just have to look out my window to see the collapse of New Rome.

We need an even BIGGER giant tiger.

That's fine. They can dress up Connie Nielsen as a gladiator.

They did that in Wonder Woman.

There was once a project for a sequel, where Maximus would come back from the dead as an eternal soldier, and he would have participated in all of the major conflicts in history. Kinda like the credit montage in "Wolverine", but movie-length.

Honestly any storyline for a sequel works for me:
The rumored Christian resurrection script
A flashback/prequel about Proximo
A Maximus-less sequel showing more Roman battles and Colosseum events

Not yet.  Not yet.

Well, yes they did, but I don't see any reason there can't be more of that sort of thing.

Wasn't there a Nick Cave script written years ago?

I mean, the first one was just high-grade schlock. Do whatever you want, Ridley.

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: I mean, the first one was just high-grade schlock. Do whatever you want, Ridley.

The opening battle scene was the best part of the movie for me, including the camp scene... after that... Yup.

I still don't understand how he won an Oscar for that movie ...

Which he apparently didn't know was already a series of books with the same plot.

It came off as "Well, you've made a lot of money for us and most of your movies are pretty iconic... here."

How about an entry in the Prometheus series that isn't completely awful instead?

Or maybe like Casca Rufio Longinus minus the stabbing of Jesus?

EvilElecBlanket: God, why?

Because there's nothing left to ruin in the Aliens/Blade Runner universe alone.  Now he's gonna have Maximus be a Nexus IV clone to fight those big pale dudes from Prometheus in the Circus Himselfius.

With Nic Cage as the voice of his horse

Probably a combination of lack of any standout competition and it was a film reminiscent of the sword and sandal epics of Hollywood yore.

To the Boston farker who said no one smiled in Gladiator...Maximus smiles at the beginning when he sees the robin perched on a bush right before Quintas asks "Will they fight?"

He will be a Gladiator in Hell as he'll be there for all eternity for choosing the wrong religion.

/Sequels for fundies.
