I'll only buy it if there's Galactus in it.

You should all go out and educate mormons about thier faith. It's amazing to see them crumble

Holy schnikies - Mike Allred, the creator of Madman? A Mormon?
[image from too old to be available]

That dude's lived a weird life. I mean, how does one go from being a news anchor in Europe to writing comic books? HOW?
2004-10-22 08:14:24 AM
'The Watcher' just shakes his head...
2004-10-22 08:16:11 AM
Good for them. I don't agree at all with the Mormon beliefs, but the church does teach its members to love their families and be good people. Nothing bad there.
2004-10-22 08:17:17 AM
In less than ten years kids in Utah will be arguing over which came first - the comic or the faith.
2004-10-22 08:18:58 AM
And the Fantastic Four can be the Holy Trinit..., wait...
2004-10-22 08:22:08 AM
Hopefully Jim Lee will do it

I had to stop reading comics because of him. Psylocke was invading my dreams.

/not really, but...

Yep, the Book of Mormon is a riot of a scifi fantasy adventure.

Think I'm kidding?

Look up Planet Kolob.
2004-10-22 08:27:29 AM
Funny, but not quite in a "ha ha" way. Not trying to flame anyone's religious beliefs, but has anyone here ever read the Book of Mormon? It's like someone with a barely adequate understanding of English grammar made a poor attempt to duplicate the writing/speech patterns used in the King James Bible. It's all but nonsensical. I honestly don't see how anyone can take it seriously. Then again, 2000 years of Christianity and all that...

Can't wait to see their take on Galactus. :)
2004-10-22 08:28:04 AM
I think somebody did a little too much LDS.
2004-10-22 08:28:57 AM
Having spent a lot of time in Utah, and also having the opportunity to work with a handful of mormons. I can honestly say I was generally wrong about mormons. I pretty much liked all of them, save for their holier-than-thou attitude.

I have no idea what possessed me to type that. I had full intentions on typing, "All mormons are douchebags."
2004-10-22 08:29:21 AM
Its good that there is a comic book form.
Especially since many Mormon beliefs could be described as... well, "comical"

/early morning, bad pun
2004-10-22 08:31:47 AM
I'll only buy it if there's a wise-cracking white salamander sidekick.
2004-10-22 08:32:03 AM
"Allred" is a typical enough Utah Mormon name, and in interviews I've seen him refer to his wife as being Mormon, but I've never heard of him being described as an active, believing Mormon himself before.

/former Mormon, former comics geek
//off to find some new Allred interviews
2004-10-22 08:32:31 AM
sorry people the...the correct religion was the Mormons..
yes we were looking for the Mormon religion...all the rest of you off to hell
2004-10-22 08:32:56 AM
Planet Kolob? Sounds like a load of boloks to me.
2004-10-22 08:37:21 AM
as if the mormons weren't messed up enough
2004-10-22 08:37:24 AM

Ah, Laura, who has also always been his colorist. She's pretty cute, AND she colors his comics:

Maybe he's one of those guys who truly "found" his religion after being coaxed by an ardent, hot supporter of the opposite sex? Everyone I know who's gone Mormon did so in order to get their hands on one of their women.

Not that Mormons are bad people. After all, they're secretly a space cult!
2004-10-22 08:40:25 AM
Thank you Mormons for being more peaceful then some other relgions...*cough*....*Islam*

Ill take my marshmellow extra black...

Fank you very much..

Joseph Smith was called a prophet, dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb!

Maybe he got religion, or maybe I jumped to conclusions and he's just doing it for the money. (Though I don't know how much money he'll make from this particular project...)
2004-10-22 08:43:58 AM
Belive it or not no one at the comic store I work at pre-ordered this!
2004-10-22 08:44:20 AM

Thank you Mormons for being more peaceful then some other relgions...*cough*....*Islam*

Do you know *anything* about Mormon history in the 19th Century? They're only peaceful now because we sent the Army in to knock them around.

Three words -- Mountain Meadow Massacre.

That would be a good place to start.
2004-10-22 08:45:32 AM
Mormons are an ok bunch, just avoid talking about religion with them AT ALL COSTS.
2004-10-22 08:45:42 AM
yay! It's another religious flamewar propogated by many misinformed people.
2004-10-22 08:46:11 AM
I'm waiting till Laura is hanging out in church and some smartass parishioner calls her a tracer.
2004-10-22 08:48:31 AM
ah..but when are they going to do a comic about the deadbeat ts/tv club? Huh...when are they?

but I have seen a lot of mormon hotties (plus you can marry more than one wink wink)
2004-10-22 08:50:15 AM
yet another fanciful fictional character in the book of mormon
2004-10-22 08:50:30 AM
The Book of Mormon?

Isn't that the religion that guy from the South made up? What was his name?

Johnny Appleseed or something?
2004-10-22 08:50:36 AM
GIS for "Mormon comics":

[image from too old to be available]

If that's the best the Mormons can do...
2004-10-22 08:52:02 AM
I just read up on "Planet Kolob". I now fear Mormons.

2004-10-22 08:11:18 AM Fool_Marquis

see, Trapped-in-CH is funny because mormons think they get their own planets post mortem...

Yeah but, do they get 69 or 73 or whatever it is, virgins in the afterlife, like the other M religion does?
2004-10-22 08:57:17 AM

Oops sorry Occams Snokems, hows this correction,

Thank you Mormons for being more peaceful then some other relgions(except for that time you killed 120 men, women and children from Arkansas...boy that was a barn burner wasnt it?...oh memories) ...*cough*....*Islam*

/Ill take my marshmellow extra black...

/Fank you very much..
2004-10-22 08:57:31 AM
No, Muslims get 73 crystal clear raisins, haven't you seen Robin Williams' HBO special?
2004-10-22 08:57:50 AM
Trik: don't they get that in life with that whole polygamy thing?
2004-10-22 08:59:15 AM
You so beat me to that with your quick draw action....touche.
2004-10-22 08:59:48 AM

Nice Star Trek IV reference... or... nice typo, and I'm the biggest dork on the planet.
2004-10-22 09:00:58 AM
If that's the best the Mormons can do...

Steve Benson, grandson of the Mormon prophet Ezra Taft Benson, won a Pulitzer Prize for his cartooning. However, somewhere along the way he became a rabid, cantankerous atheist...

/still a Benson fan

"the Book of Mormon is a riot of a scifi fantasy adventure"

Ok, I just followed your advise and searched for "Planet Kolob". I read the information with the intention of learning something new...I came away very scared! Please tell me that Mormons don't REALLY believe that stuff!

/doesn't know much about Mormon "Religion(?)"
2004-10-22 09:01:49 AM
I've read a lot of religious beliefs around the world, and they're all pretty weird when you look at the details. I think the only way to judge religion (from a non-believer position) is ot look at their history, and look at their present.

How bad have the Morman's treated others (and their own)? How do they treat each other today? 'course astrahl correctly quotes how I think of these folks (and it was one of the best episodes!)...

2004-10-22 09:03:57 AM
Please tell me that Mormons don't REALLY believe that stuff!

lots of scary stuff there. try to GIS and find an image of the Osmond's kolob album. mormons believe god was once a man, and that men can become gods and get their own planet. ask a mormon about the book of abraham, which is actually egyptian.
