Imagine my shock that people chose their well paying job and took a few minutes out of their day to get a shot.

It's almost like there's a pretty wide difference between "planning to do" something and "doing" something.

It's also almost like the people who run police unions are disingenuous, lying sacks of shiat by nature, without exception.

Not only that, you can usually scam a day off after the second shot due to side effects.  Only downside is that you might really need it, depending on how your body reacts.

You mean to tell me that assholes always fold like a cheap tent in the wind when you push them?

Do you have any idea what Staties make?

Ain't no one giving up that $$$

Police Officers plan their retirement years in advance to maximize pension benefits.  Only the most deluded would give up the extra income for the rest of their life, no matter how short it may be.

I was a combination of both of these things. Planned to take it, ended up needing to take it.

There is a very difference between "I'll quit!" and "I quit."

Wait. So in addition to the cops being maga morans and anti-vax covidiots they are also lying sacks of crap?

Fetch me my fainting couch.

The benefits of a MA state trooper are very high, including retirement at 55 with most of your ending salary and benefits for life.  But whatever bruh.  Good luck washing dishes or changing bedpans for $8/hour without benefits, and forget about retirement, if covid doesn't kill ya first.

I sure did. No flu/covid symptoms, but I was farking exhausted. Took a little OTC cold medicine and slept for 12-15 hours straight after each shot.

It was awesome.

I'm guessing this person was either within six months of retiring anyhow, or only had a couple of years on the force and was unsatisfied for any number of reasons.

Either way, don't let the doorknob get stuck in your ass on the way out!

Mass-hole here - the news this a.m. clarified - one resigned, but up to 20 have contacted Human Resources to inquire about early retirement, so they may not quit outright, but there may still be a few more exiting before Friday deadline.

When unions make the news it's either because of a strike or because they're trying to dig their heels in on something stupid.

2021-09-28 9:05:34 AM
I also suspect the healthcare people who quit because of the mandates will come back when they find out: A. They can't get unemployment and B. All of the other facilities require vaccination.

I know I needed it. Not quite as bad as the second shingles shot but I definitely did not get anything done the next day.

So either you didn't really believe the vaccines are Bill Gates trackers that will change your RNA and nuke your sperm OR you allowed all that to happen to you just for a job

BeansNfranks: Been saying it for a while. If everyone just mandates it, all these howler monkeys will fold. Might have a few hold outs (per article, 1 in 20?), but let 'em die.

That's the republican plan.

Leadership knows vaccines work, and that this vaccine in particular works.  All of 'em are fully vaccinated.  Every last one of them.  But they want to force Biden to implement a national mandate so they can paint him as a dictator.  If he makes you get the needle, how long till he's taking your guns.  And remember, every accusation is a confession for these folks, so if they call Biden a wannabe dictator...

I'm sure down in the rank and file a lot of people believe all the nonsense, from 5G chips to cattle deworming medicine to mRNA changes your DNA.  But that's because the right has spent thirty plus years cultivating an elaborate propaganda system so complete that they don't even need to recruit useful idiots to the cause. Pastors, YouTube and Facebook cranks, and local radio guys take the initiative and flood every aspect of society with this nonsense.  Do these people believe it?  Some, to be sure, but others are just addicted to likes, views, and patreon just like millennials making travel videos.

Yeah, but that trooper ran the radar out on the highway so the budget is gonna take a massive hit next year.

And when they find out that with six years to go their pensions will drop by 30%, they will decide to STFU and GBTW.

Economists have terms for this - expressed preference and revealed preference.  Ignore what people say, only look at what they actually do.

Plus all the side jerbs.  The was a Fark thread the other day where Derek Chauvin earned close to a million doing Grocery Store Security, delivering subpenas (fy/sp), covering repos and security for various VIPs.

There is not a single police or fire dept I've ever seen that doesn't have a backlog of guys dying to get admitted to their respective training academies, join the department, and enjoy a secure high-paying widely respected job for the rest of their working lives.

My uncle pulled his weapon all of twice his entire career, enjoyed success and advancement and community service, and got to retire before he turned 60. Be a damned fool to give that up over a farking shot in the arm.

Ok, maybe just one...

This is what latter-day union "power" looks like: Public employees stomping their feet over something -- anything -- that requires them to change their behavior for the job. And it's not for any principle beyond "We don't wanna."

It actually says something about the success of labor organizing that workers don't have to worry about securing good pay and benefits any more, and can instead throw performative fits over something as simple as getting a life-saving shot.

Of course, this further contributes to the image of unions as greedy cabals of overprotected, lazy public employees -- but apparently that's some mysterious phenomenon that union management is completely innocent in creating, so they respond with more of the same behavior and expensive PR campaigns.

2021-09-28 9:13:43 AM
Thing is, this wasn't rank and file saying they were quitting. It was their union saying they were saying they were quitting. HUGE difference. I'm very pro union in general and believe even the police should be able to unionize, but holy shiat is their union leadership a dumpster fire all the way down.
