What the hell? Is there a Brazil-US connection? Are there Nazis in Brazil?

2021-09-28 7:06:22 AM
Fascists have historically looked to the USA for inspiration.

It was easier to just use the memes as-is rather than fire up Photoshop again.

It's not like American fascists are using our flag anymore.. they make their own.  Trump flags, Confederate flags, Nazi flags, Gadsten flags...

You don't always get what you want when the military takes over, but the military sure does. Good luck with all that.

might have something to do with all the death commandos we supported in latin America over the years.

And American conservatives love helicopter ride diplomacy.

"Some Bolsonaro supporters have called for a military takeover of Brazil. Why do they wave the American flag?"

Maybe it has something to do with the extensive history of the US supporting far right takeovers of South and Central American countries.

Oh I really hope the flag isn't replacing the swastika. I really like having one out on display.

Just another thing those low IQ degenerates are ruining.

The US helped teach German fascists a century ago. Why not?

Conservatism is a cancer that attacks liberty, democracy, equality, and progress wherever it manifests.

I dunno, a lot of USA patriots were really into Tony Blair during the leadup to the Iraq war. Not to mention the weird Republican liking for Putin, of all people.

Some sane Russian with nothing left to lose needs to do the world a favor and Kill Putin.

Are we also funding them?

/not for nothing did Jello Biafra refer to the US flag as the 'Yankee swastika'

I had a good friend who'd travelled extensively who had always been excited to visit Brazil. He finally made it down there seven years ago.

He came back deeply disappointed, his words being, "Well, it's basically Other Texas, because it's full of fundamentalists and cattle culture everywhere."

That's when I knew the kids weren't alright.

"The Brazilian right is a nationalist group, and it is using flags that belong to other countries."

They don't get it -- what has been exported is fascism.

That it now currently overlaps with the Republican party's symbolism and ideology tells you all you need to know.

That's not "America" they're celebrating with that flag and iconography and dress -- it's a twisted version of it that seeks to destroy all that America, proper, stands for.

Yeah, i'm wondering how long until the US flag becomes the preferred symbol of seditious traitors across the world. The ENTIRE world watched US citizens beating US police officers with the US flag at our US capitol building trying to overthrow the US government.  The left shiats on the flag and the right blasphemes it, no wonder foreigners don't understand what it's supposed to represent.

misanthropicsob: Are we also funding them?

"We?"

No -- if there was foreign funding of this -- and there surely is -- it would be coming from Trump & Co. -- who have been seen actively working with them in the US and Brazil.

But it's interesting that you said, "we". Maybe it was correct the 1st time, idk?

Bannon and Half-scoop are part of all this?

Small surprise is small.

The GQP have metastasized and are now infecting the rest of the world.

And yeah, they are using American imagery in order to push a hard right neo-fascist nationalist movement that embraces authoritarianism and rejects the courts.

So... not good.

Yup, and a history of native exploitation with African chattel slavery.

It's the US with more jungle and less mountains.

The food is good, though.

The only reason America hated the Soviets was they were an official atheist nation. Putin's embraced the church (because they hate the same people that he does).

We, as in America. The CIA has been known to fund far right kooks under all administrations.

Traditionally over the last half century or so, the American flag has represented, in part, opposition to socialism. Even now, it makes American socialists and communists feel uncomfortable.

Well, that's technically correct given that fascism is the opposite of socialism.

Lots of connection with fascism in Brazil, Nazis fled there, Confederates the same.  We've (I'm a citizen there) taken in lots of the worst of the worst.  Lately there have been lots of Trumpers like Jason Miller turning up there and Bolsonaro showing up here.

In WWII, you had the communists, fascists, and relatively democratic freedom loving Americans.

The fascists were nationalist and socialists. The communists were global socialists.
The Americans were modestly nationalist and non-socialists.

Strange, all of the self-described socialists and communists I know aren't bothered by the American flag.

Are you just making sh*t up with no proof so you can feel better?

If you think the USA's history is filled with liberal democracy and individual freedom, well, you might want to start reading some books rather than mindlessly listening to propaganda.

it's fitting, really, Brazilians adopting the practice of "we love our country so much that we're going to display other flags to demonstrate it."

the flag and the word "patriot" have come to give me the knee-jerk reaction that there's fascism going on.

yes it does, because fascists have discarded everything the flag is supposed to stand for in favor of wrapping themselves in it as a merely visual identifier.
