If you don't use your .gov or .mil email to register then you don't get automatic high commander status in the organization.  It's a catch 22, really.

Which is why it's traditional to establish your identity with a benign email exchange with a site admin or mod and then actually use a free throwaway and an alias to register with the site afterwards.

You can still get caught, but it's a lot less likely and there is less obvious evidence if you do.

If you can't handle that, you're too stupid to help.  Then again, you're already on the MAGA train so we should have already known that much anyway.

So I worked for a .gov back when Ashley-Madison got hacked. I downloaded the dataset and grepped through looking for anyone from my org who was dumb enough to register using their work email.

We had people dumb enough. Now management originally didn't care until I pointed out that this combined with say... The OPM breach, now you have a list of cleared people who could be potential blackmail targets. Suddenly people were VERY interested.

Things happened.

Depends on their command and their security level.

Black or female commander? You're going to have a bad time. High-level security clearance? Not anymore.

Both of those mean your next fitness report is going to SUCK, so start planning that resignation or retirement now.

I don't think that's a fair amendment to my statement. Would you also say that chatting with the nurse for my child's school from my work phone merits being thrown out of a job/out of the military? I know my agency with the Army permitted us to do things like that so as long as it didn't interfere with our official duties.

Sure. but why bother when you've been radicalized, and don't consider the extremist group you're joining to be extremists. These morons don't understand that sedition is wrong. They think the natural order is to have white nationalists in charge, and any means to restore that is acceptable to them.

A total of 132 email addresses found in the list used the .mil domain, 100 of which were from the U.S. Army. Other branches of the military found on the list include the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Marine Corps.

At least the Space Force is still traitor free.

This depends on your clearance level and the intended purpose of the phone.

When working a job requiring clearance, I tend to carry two phones so the worlds don't cross.  The only time I'd use the work phone for something personal would be an emergency where I didn't care I'd explain later if asked.

You're getting paid enough you can afford your own phone.

My time in Fed contracting taught me that many, many people will use their .gov address to sign up for EVERYTHING. In the case of older employees it may have been the only email address they ever had. The younger ones were just stupid.

All their banking, their kid's elementary school, their Costco membership, their yoga class, their Pornhub account

and no, I'm not joking about the last one. It happened several times.
