One cat for every four people doesn't seem like *nearly* enough.

Tho' cats *do* seem to like to circulate and get fed by 'adopt' multiple families...

Have the cats run the country instead of the apes. They'd do a better job.

How many will fit into the Albert Hall?

These devices snapped photos triggered by motion-including a snapshot of a bobcat, which is not quite the kind of cat that researchers were seeking to catalog.

There's a youtube channel of a couple of idiots family domesticated two bobcats.  Imagine two unruly housecats, except they weigh 30lbs, have 3/4" claws, teeth that can take off your finger, and poops the size of your fist.  Every piece of furniture in the house is shredded and both humans constantly have claw and bite marks on them.  Oh, and the cats poop in the tub.

Practice, practice, practice.

Wait, that's how you fit them into Carnegie Hall.

I'll come in again.

In an opinion that is sure to be popular on Fark, all the strays should be euthanized.

Cats are unnatural predators and kill anything that is small enough for them to kill, including millions of native songbirds. Just capturing them, giving them a spay or neuter and releasing them isn't a good solution.

And that's why I buy my office chairs in brick-and-mortar stores instead of Ebay or New Egg.

Seems right to me. Washington is actually smaller than the Metropolitan Area of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Even if you don't measure it in square kilometers.

The Floundering Fadders arranged for the Capital to be a hick town in order to prevent democracy, by which they meant, like XVIIIth century gentlemen and Tories, the workers rather the peasants, tenants and domestic servants of rich landlords.

Mind you, they pulled the same trick when they moved the capital of Canada from Montreal to Kingston and then to Ottawa, thereby confusing Americans so much they could never invade.

Hey, remember when we were going to make DC  a state, and then we just didn't?

It could be sitting on a chainsaw with all that fluff fat.

They rounded out a bunch of ferals in my back lot this summer. There must have been a dozen of them hanging out there. Only the one tuxedo cat ever came back to claim his personal parking spot in the sunny side of the lot.

Damn!  So they are small people then?  What do you suggest we do? 😺

Because I expect there will be a lot of them in the D.C. area.

Counting is okay, it's the multiplying that's the problem.

There is a Russian couple that has a pet puma. Judging by the size, I am going to guess 60+ lbs easy.

I have two cats (one of whom is a food-stealing asshole, the other is a hand-biting asshole) that I would fight a bear to defend - and that's not an idle threat, there have been bears in my backyard two or three times in the last month or so - and I wholeheartedly agree.

I think the best option would be to spay/neuter and socialize, if we could, but if we can't it's really not worth the billion-plus animal deaths (particularly birds, particularly songbirds) that the ecosystem rather needs (they control the bug populations, among other things).

// lived in Israel for a while, too - their feral cat problem is light-years beyond DC's
// all cats should be indoor cats
// yes, I know Fluffy wants outside, but they'll get over it in a month or two
// if you NEED to, a bit of outdoor supervision works (one of mine occasionally comes outside for short bursts)

Only because they were sold-out of bears that day.

I was in St Petersburg years ago, where they were selling t-shirts that said, "I've been to Russia - there are no bears." Except one day as I was wandering around, I saw a bear on a plastic garden chair that you could get your picture taken with. Go to Russia - there most definitely are bears!
