Free Guy (2021)- Can Ryan Reynolds' charm actually make a good video game movie? Mostly, yes. Entertaining. Funny when it needed to be. Stranger Things Hair and Killing Eve's storyline was predictable (although saved by a d***ish Taika Waititi) but it never felt tedious. Thoroughly enjoyed.

My Little Pony: A New Generation (2021)- Kids loved it. I.... quite liked it as well. I would watch an entire movie of just Izzy Moonbow. This might sound weird and I know it's a CGI kids movie but am I supposed to find Izzy sexy? Did they do that on purpose or is it just me? Oh sh*t.... am I Brony?

The Greatest Showman (2017)- CSB: several years ago I received pre-screening tickets for this movie but after reading the synopsis Mrs. Wooly and I decided not to go. Tried giving the tickets away but no one wanted them. Then, recently, I caught a few minutes of it playing in the waiting room of my kids dentist and thought it looked interesting enough to give it a shot. It's a fun movie! The songs and choreography are well done. The Bearded Lady can SING!

Finally saw Malignant.  Still not quite sure what I watched.

Athlete cameos?  What about Brett Far-ver-uh in There's Something About Mary?

They need to learn the difference between a 'cameo' and an actual role. The Rock in Mummy Returns is not a cameo. That's an actual part he's playing in the movie. Same with Andre the Giant in Princess Bride. He's not playing Andre the Giant, he's playing an actual character with an important part in the movie.

/Also, it's missing a lot of football players from The League, especially JJ Watt

Cameo. You see him, you laugh, and then you move on. He has no real effect on the movie, and he's not named at all. If you replaced him with anyone else, all you'd lose is the "Heh, it's Matt Damon" giggle.

Same with Stan Lee in Marvel movies. He's technically a different character each time, but he's never named and his role, if replaced by someone, would not affect the movie in the slightest except for the "Heh, it's Stan Lee" giggle.

They list OJ from the Naked Gun movies. That's not a cameo. He was given a specific, prominent role to play with specific lines written for that character, not what 'OJ Simpson the Football Player' would say.

Was on vaca for 12 days.
Didn't wanna start a new series before I left, so I restarted Letterkenny.
Finished it when I got back.

For the cameos, how bout Dale Jr in Talladega Nights and Dale Sr in Baseketball? Any other famous athlete family members in movies?

I just got Hulu so i checked out Letterkenny and The Handmaid's Tale. They are both a chore to watch so I gave up. Sunny in Philly made up for. Not just waiting for Saints of Newark to drop.

And of course my Friday night tradition of re-watching Freddy Got Fingered.

Margin Call (2011) - A look into a financial firm (that is TOTALLY NOT Lehman Brothers) during a situation that is TOTALLY NOT the 2008 financial crash.  Great cast, and Jeremy Irons is fun as the CEO.  Rating: B.

Spectre (2015) - James Bond rescues the world from big brother.  Not one of Bond's better outings, but better than the previous two at least.  Rating: C.

Halloween season starts early in my house so for awhile its all movies in that vibe.

Coraline my little girls all time favorite movie, been a while since I watched it we read the book together about a year ago. Good movie, good book.

Monster House never saw it before had some weird trying to appeal to adults and kids humor to it that doesnt work nearly as well as the Pixar movies. I just kept wondering how this house could swallow up the police and run down the street and the only people who seemed to care were 3 middle school aged kids. The neighborhood was just oddly empty. Not great but not offensive would only watch again if my kids begged to or something, it wont be added to our must watch yearly Halloween list.

New watched:
Nine Perfect Strangers - finished watching it. Weird but intriguing. Overall B-
The Flight Attendant - watched another episode. Meh, but I'll stick it out
X-Men: Dark Phoenix - what a load of crap. I'd rather watch this movie again than rewatch this turd

Rewatched:
Twilight's Last Gleaming - General threatens nuclear war unless the President reveals that we got into a war with no true point or endgame, just to show the rest of the world how tough we are. Lot's of scenery chewing and looked like it was filmed for TV. C

No Way Out -great cold war movie, Sean Young was hot as hell and a plot twist that M. Night Shamalangading dong would give his left nut for. A.

The only grey area here is Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who is playing both the actual role AND the 4th wall breaking cameo.

Malignant (2021)
A pretty good horror movie. It wasn't very scary, and I've seen bloodier ones. I got caught up in the story, though, and did not foresee the ending.

Copshop (2021)
I really liked this. Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo are the stars, but the movie belongs to Alexis Louder. She was outstanding.

Citizen Kane (1941)
It is the 80th anniversary, so a couple of theatres in my hometown have been showing it. It was nice to see it on a big screen.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021)
More interesting than I expected, mostly due to a bravura performance by Jessica Chastain. At first I thought the giggly performance by the two leads was an ill-considered attempt to seem younger when they were playing the Bakkers in their early twenties, but they kept it up the whole movie. Were these people really so empty-headed and clueless? I suppose they were. Just like with the movie Respect, this one also very briefly touched on child abuse within the charismatic preaching community.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999)
A truly bizarre film, well worth watching. I saw it at my local art gallery, and people brought children with them! Warning: A movie about a contract killer for the Mob is not for children. The soundtrack is on lists of the best soundtracks.

The Outsiders (1983)
The longer version has been recently restored, and re-released. Reviewers tend to think it is too stylized. There are about a dozen actors at the beginning of their careers. I didn't really like it - too much fighting, too much alcohol induced child abuse. I am glad I finally saw it, though.

The Courier (2021)
A spy thriller, but not in the style of a James Bond movie. There are no special effects set pieces, no flashy women. It's well-acted and is based on a true story. It reminded me of Bridge of Spies.

I think the best athlete cameos are Mike Tyson in The Hangover and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in Airplane. I don't follow most sports, so quite often I don't recognize athlete cameos anyway. The list could maybe have included Entourage just once, leaving some room for other shows.

2021-09-27 5:04:49 PM
The whole list sucked, it was more of heres all the poeple who guest starred on Entourage, it should have been narrowed down to one entry per series.

that being said they got #1 right but it wasnt just Mattingly, the whole cast for the softball team that was great, its probably my favorite Simpsons episode.

I would add Kareem Abdul Jabbar in Game of Death too, not Bruce Lees best movie but seeing them fight was interesting.

I'm No Longer Here - Spanish language movie (i saw with subtitles) on Netflix. About a small groups of young people in Monterey, Mexico who are fans of Kolombiano music. Basically Colombian cumbias slowed down. The main character, Ulises, is one of the Terkos (stubborn ones) who through some poor coincidence has to head to NY City illegally. It covers his time in Monterey and in NYC. Very interesting movie and I liked it a lot.

I took last week off and downloaded a whooole bunch of tripe:

Typo (2021) Psychological horror. Ugh. Couldn't get through it, so I jumped to the "shocking" ending.

Shelter in Place (2021) Not recommended, and it just gets dumber and makes less sense as it goes along. Worth reading the reviews in IMDB for the astonishing shill-to-actual-review ratio.

Teenage Vampire (2020) Family friendly tripe for pre-teens. Yikes. Didn't finish.

Six Hot Chicks in a Warehouse (2017) Apparently, Brits can make two-star jiggle movies, too. So classy. Didn't finish.

The Auschwitz Report (2021) Solid.

The Card Counter (2021) Good until it's over and you're like "what the hell did I just watch and what was the point of that?"

Apartment 413 (2019) Not bad.

The Forever Purge (2021) Pretty consistent with the others.

The Fall: (2nd week mentioning it) Just started S3, well-done series if you're looking for something.
Project Power (Netflix): meh, C-,
Goliath (Amazon): S4E01 was all over the place, I expect it will get better.  Enjoyed S1 & S3, bugged out of S2 when the creepy fetish room was introduced.
Cruella: fun backstory, two-thirds through it, will finish later.

Margin Call was mentioned above; very good flick if you like that genre.

Finally got around to watching Once Upon A Time....In Hollywood

I was a little bored to be honest.

Oh forgot. Been watching Y: The Last Man.A biatchoppy in quality but so far pretty true to the comic with some societal updates. It's a little too 'woke' for me though. Almost every character is played by a woman. Fair warning.

I have been rewatching The Sopranos, trying to finish the series before the movie comes out. Tony didn't have the makings of a varsity athlete. So I guess Lawrence Taylor in that episode when he was in the high stakes illegal poker game.

Dosen't mean too much, hell I was a varsity athlete for my ability to lay down and shoot a gun in various high schools against other kids.

Sounds kinda weird written out.

Zack Snyder's Justice League, they did a bunch of refilming there are new characters. This is what The Justice League movie should have been. It's completely unrecognizable from the first attempt at a Justice League movie.

We got deep into Netflix's The Lost Pirate Kingdom docudrama series and loved it. It really gets better as you go. I'm kind of surprised I haven't heard more about it and can't find anything on it online that isn't from when it first came out. A rule of thumb for when they seem to be making something up is when they don't have the historians talking about it. We've finished the whole thing and now I'm reading more into the actual pirates.

We've also gotten into Welland Confidential. It's basically Reno 911! meets The X-Files.

Not as good as it's sister shows has been Marvel's What If...? We're about halfway through that one.

Ip Man - Cantonese (?) with English subs. Awesome Kung Fu flick involving the Japanese occupation of China, cool symbolic use of Zach Snyder-esque pallet, which I normally hate, for a long stretch but it fits symbolically. Like many Eastern movies I assume there's some cultural subtext I'm missing but who cares, cool fights throughout.

Evangelion: Death and Rebirth: kinda useless retelling of NGE with very little "new" stuff but I kind of appreciated how watching it reframed scenes from early in the show in a "what I know now" kinda way without having to rewatch the whole damn anime. With subs... I only watch dubs when they're the only option.

Rewatched Attack of the Clones but honestly aside from the last 40 or so minutes I barely remembered it and I'm pretty sure I saw it in theaters (would have been 14 or 15 around that time). Some engaging scenes between a lot of meandering stuff that's kind of expected when you know the plot of the original trilogy. Worse love story than Twilight.
