Once again, I'll say: quit shiatting on everything. We don't need to mine the oceans. It doesn't make the world better, it makes it worse.

Amazing that they've developed the tech to make this possible.  Disappointing that they don't appear to have spent any time, money or effort on making it anything other than maximally destructive.

I could see governments wanting something like this near major ports since it comes with free passive sonar with every purchase.

I'm a big Lovecraft nerd and I had something relevant to add to the thread. Unfortunately the gif that X-Geek posted caused my brain to reboot and I can't remember what the hell I was going to say. Thanks X-Geek!

'Form follows function'... and the function is to asset strip the sea floors.

Not a single Dollar, Pound Sterling, Euro or Yuan will be spent on anything other than returning value to investors. Remediation of the sea floors will only happen if legally mandated, and even then the bare minimum (rock / sand dumping etc) will be done.

Oh look, a bunch of people in big countries shiatting all over a small island nation trying to recover from colonialism.

If there's minerals of interest someone is going to extract them. You can bet that China won't do any better and I figured they would be the first to try to move forward on this. It's a foregone conclusion that this will happen sooner or later.

I know, someone is gonna post something about this being an edgy post but it isn't like our own Congress is going to do anything to seriously help the planet, ya know? But we expect other countries who have pretty much nothing to not do the exact same shiat that we did and still do and would do even more of if it was profitable enough.

Instead we tear up their land and leave them destitute and hammer them for every attempt at improving their situations. Oh, money laundering by organized crime? Let's talk all the big banks who openly work with cartels. Let's talk Deutsche Bank. Let's talk about hammering Corsica like we did Nauro. Or we could just, you know, just punish this one country some more for doing what is going to be done regardless of their own actions. Sure, they break the seal this time, but I can't help but feel that this is yet another example of privileged people trying to dictate to others on how you should better yourself but not like that. Only we get to do that stuff.

Deep sea black smokers have been likened to worlds separated in space. We've only found/seen a few of them. Who is to say that others may exist, that we haven't seen, that have advanced civilizations growing around them?

My uncle had his funeral service at the Reley Funeral Home. Not quite the same, but interesting to me.

I still didn't go. (Covid)
