I, uh, don't believe the gender neutral language is required when referring to dairy cows.

rdyb: Too lazy to look for a reference now but somewhere i heard that chocolate is added so they can sell the infected yellowy molk with pus and other discoloration.

SCC ( white blood cell ) testing is FDA mandatory and has certain limits. It is going to be present in all milk, but the farmers can't easily sort the milk for it's SCC content... if they could do this, they'd just filter it out.

The milk buyers on the other hand could be making financial decisions about lower quality milk being given to their chocolate milk supply. High SCC reduces shelf life though.

/I could be wrong. IANA  farmer... just googled and read a bunch.

I love chocolate milk but Hershey's syrup never mixes up completely no matter how much you try and Nesquik is just nasty. My go to is Ovaltine. Every night I have a glass before going to bed. Still haven't saved enough labels to get my Little Orphan Annie decoder ring yet, though.

Damn, I love chocolate milk. I'm in my 70s and still love it.

This is the (even more) embarrassing part: I love the cheap pre-made stuff you can get at the grocery. I can't drink milk with lactose anymore, but every once in awhile, the local store will have some of that cheap chocolate milk except lactose free. I feel like a kid sneaking a cigarette when I buy it.

Favorite form: egg creams. Fox's U-Bet is the best syrup for that. It's crap for regular chocolate milk but put a spritz of soda water in there and it shines.
