I see there's a bit of Fallout in there as well.

Isn't that basically Burning Man?

Yeah, but with shiattier music.

I guess this is the response to Burning Man going too mainstream?

It'll be interesting to see what eventually replaces this. And by "interesting," I mean, well, something other than interesting.

Burning Man is the one that has millionaires setting up oases with fountains, butlers, etc.

What difference would that make? As the old saying goes, you can lead a Juggalo to water, but you cannot make him bathe.

You can almost call it a descent into madness?

I've been a Mad Max fan since way back, I even like Thunderdome (my fourth favorite movie), and those costumes are pretty darn good.

Wasteland time again, for the news to 'discover and report' on again, same as the last 9 years (2020 excepted)....

Oh look at the time, Humungus is calling again, time to rewatch the Max Mad movies in its original Australian again...

For a Mad Max convention, shouldn't it be in an Australian desert?

I mean it would have be a lot more covid spreading, since ICP cancelled their festival because they "wouldn't risk one juggalo's life" in the face of covid.

If you actually read their website they're requiring full proof of vaccination for all attendees.

I look forward to the further Disneyfication of all things. It's like the old days of TGiF when people were excited to go to a place where 'cool' shiat hung on the walls and the staff was dressed appropriately cool as well. I do like this look a little more than TGiF restaurants or Hooter or Disneyland . It's kind of nice to not have to go to a piercing or tattoo shop to see Mad Max cosplayers surrounded by all their fetish items.

Mad Max cosplay looks like Disneyfication to you? It's just a differently themed RenFaire with more sweat and sex. There were never proud halcyon earlier days when Mad Max impersonators gathered to authentically kill one another in Thunderdome.

Going to a potential spreader even during a global pandemic says otherwise.

I dissent.

Yeah.

I enjoyed those movies, but like... going anywhere where the filters defining who is in the large crowd include "big fan of an actor most famous for being a virulent antisemite regularly caught spewing hate speech and using racial slurs" and "big fan of a science fiction trope predicated entirely on a libertarian-specific fantasy of Ayn Rand proportions" is basically the same as directly injecting a syringe full of every known variant of the COVID-19 virus directly into your veins.

I'm not saying those are the only people who are gonna be there, I'm just saying it's gonna be half the crowd and that maybe if you're not one of the nutjobs yourself you should weigh the fun factor of dressing up in steampunk cosplay against, y'know, the people you'll be associating with.  At least when it could literally kill you instead of just kill your love of the franchise.

Is there going to be a Mad Max Cinephiles vs Fallout Gamers Twilight Boffer Melee?

I mean, I'd expect the former to have the advantage in the joust, but the latter would have a chance in that one.

I can't say for sure because I've never been, but I've heard it's one of those events where if you want to get laid, it's nobody's fault but your own if you don't.

I always did say that one of the most lethal thing out bush was a tourist in a motor vehicle.

Guess this proves the point either way

Yeah, because being outside in the desert sun with all that virus killing ultraviolet radiation hitting everything, and wind diluting it, are perfect conditions for spreading a virus.

This event sounds like it's following the same safety protocols as some of the music festivals that Fark wasn't screaming about, and yeah, it's outdoors, strong sunlight, blah blah blah. There's just a rush to judgment on this event more than the others because it looks weird and scary to some of the posters in this thread, even though it probably attracts a lot of the same headbangers who show up for the music festivals.

Personally I'd avoid it because I'm avoiding all group gatherings for the foreseeable future. Something doesn't have to be a "super spreader" to still sound like a bad idea during a pandemic.

Meh.  I'm vaccinated, as are all of my family.  I'm not actually worried about getting COVID now.

Why?  Because I'm now roughly 10 times more likely to die in a car accident than I am of COVID.  And I'm not going to stop driving.
