Yes it is. All dogs should be over 60 lbs.

This is an absurd statement...

As for pugs, they don't suffer quietly... they snore while awake, as well as make choking noises. It's sad honestly. A family friend had 3 of them and they all made snoring, choking, grunting noises constantly.

Dog breeders are evil.

Nonsense. The Chihuahua was a totally legitimate working dog - the Mezoamerican's sunstitute for cats, which they never domesticated. They stored large quantities of grain, and needed ratcatchers.
There are other small working dogs.
And there are also "sick" breeds that are large - English Bulls, St. Bernards, Bassets, Boxers, etc.
It's not a matter of size.

Tyrone Slothrop: Dog breeders are evil.

Some dog breeders are evil. Some are just so caught up in dog show circuit bullshiat that they breed the worst possible traits into their dogs to win a dog show. Dog shows are mostly evil. The judging is a mixture of politics and incompetence that leads to singling out the flattest noses on boxers, the weirdest rear leg stance on German Shepards, and any other extreme that might look interesting but isn't functional for the dog.

And of course there are the idiots that leave their intact females running loose in a yard where they get bred by anything that can hop over or dig under the fence. Hybrid vigor only goes so far when both parents have questionable hips or other health problems.

Look towards Retromops. They're bred to have longer faces while retaining other dog breed standards for pugs and bulldogs.

Perhaps humans love them because, with their snouts squished toward their skulls until their faces are flat, brachycephalic dogs are unbearably adorable. Their big, round eyes seem friendly, curious and kind; their wrinkled visages convey a delightful spectrum of moods, from grumpy to overjoyed; and when their tongues stick out of their mouths, as often happens, they look like they're blowing raspberries.

Nothing personal or anything, but I think those dogs are insanely ugly.  Like you  tried to get the ugliest dog you could find.

Adopt, don't shop.

There are probably hundreds of dogs in the shelters around you that are looking for their new best two legged buddy.

Sounds like my wife, really.

I had an ex with shih tzus. No snouts. Constantly huffing for breath or snoring. Later, I got a Maltese Shih Tzu, almost identical but with a reasonable sized snout. No breathing issues. And smarter. Dammit, I miss her.

I hope malshis become the standard breed so that zero-snout look is bred out. And the same with all dogs. But knowing "designer" dog owners, I don't hold out much hope of fixing the problem once and for all.

My mutt was a lean, healthy 45 pounds, although he did develop some lower back problems when he was 13.  More to the point, all dogs should be mutts.  If you're going to breed dogs, select them for healthy bodies and good temperament, not what they look like.

What quandary?   If you choose inbreeding for cuteness, over your pets health, and comfort, you're farking garbage.  You're lower than tail dockers, and ear clippers.

The whole idea of enslaving an animal to cater to your every whim, including your incapacity to be alone. Well, one more thing that separated me from the normal humans.
