I had to 'put my foot down' with my wife.  I will not put up a tree prior to Dec 1st, and it has to come down in the first week of the new year.

Otherwise we'd probably have a tree Nov 1st through February.

Silly Christians. 9 nights of candles, latkes and dreidels and on to New Yer's!

I feel like Christmas starts earlier outside the US in general. Thank the lord for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Not sure Scotland celebrates Thanksgiving. I know there is a desire to leave the UK but I've not heard anything about Scotland becoming the 51st state.

My neighborhood grocery store is already selling egg nog, and they already have their usual holiday baking/cooking display up too.

You could always join Canada.  Better to be the 11th province than the 51st state.

Counterpoint - Quebec

Counterpoint - Quebec

That's not much of a counterpoint.  Despite all the biatching you hear from the separatists, Quebec objectively massively benefits from being a Canadian province.  And if they magically managed to leave Canada despite how logistically impossible and economically devastating that would be... becoming an American state would bring all their fears to reality overnight.  They'd be a 'have not' state and the US would have zero interest in doing business with them in anything but English.

Not gonna judge. One year I put the tree up at the end of August because I didn't think my oldest cat was going to make it to the xmas season. Those people have their reasons that are none of my business.

First world problems. I have had Halloween deco up inside the house since since roughly mid August. including a tree

My only concession to xmas decorating is a poinsettia, maybe.  Haven't put up a tree in at least a decade.  Its amazing how freaked out some folks get by that.

Our Lowes already has their Christmas decoration out next to the Halloween ones.

So you married a Filipina too, huh?

My wife started counting down 10 days ago. No tree, but shell probably put up decorations next week.

I mean, Marvel assaulted me with a christmas song a couple weeks ago in the Hawkeye trailer and I was only slightly aggrieved.

That tree is going to be so brown by December (yes, I know it's a fake one).

I put up my interior Christmas lights on the holidays when I first moved in. Nine years ago.

English, but just as bad.  We haven't gone in a few years (even pre-COVID), but it used to be that every summer we'd go to NOTL and we just had to spend an hour in the Christmas ornament store on the tourist shopping strip.  Couldn't leave without spending a wad of cash.

I don't know what it is about Christmas, but we have a large basement closet stuffed floor to ceiling with house decorations and tree ornaments that have to come out Dec 1st.  Me?  I just got tired of putting up lights every year and bought a couple of projector lamps I stake out on the lawn on a timer.  I don't know about you, but adding a bunch of work to a holiday does NOT make it more fun for me.

The year my dad died I threw his artificial tree out the front door, decorations and all. This was in August and who knows how long it had been left up.

My mind immediately jumped to the notion there's a short story in that. He left it up because he didn't feel well enough to take it down or because he knew it would be his last, or something intriguing like the story of where he bought it, or etc.

Sorry about your dad, though.

That's nothing. I've had Christmas lights up since January.

Ok, I never took them down.

I wonder if they still work.

If that's not a clear-cut sign of someone who needs a mandatory 48 hour hold and mental evaluation I don't know what is.

Yeah, went to Lowes a few days ago. Saw Halloween decorations and Xmas decorations for sale about 20 feet apart.

My buddy got me a Sonic the Hedgehog Christmas ornament from Walmart...nearly two weeks ago.. Left it on the counter next to the fresh bag of Halloween candy that was from a display right next to it.

He said it was the only god damn joy left. I was mad at him, I was mad at his brother, and I was mad at myself. It was just hard to go through 50 plus years of clutter without any real help or support.
That was 11 years ago. I am over it now.

It's been a tough 2 years. If putting up Christmas in your home helps you get through the days, do it! No Judgment January has been held over indefinitely. You do you.
