At this point, Democrats have to be concerned about how every dogcatcher race works out, lest the Q*Nuts take over town/city/county administration layer by layer.

The best thing that can happen is Trump smells easy money and jumps into the race with both feet, motivating Ds and poisoning Rs.

As a former Virginian, I do not think that what happens with Terry McAwful is a predictor of anything. He's the kind of Democrat that you hold your nose and vote for because the alternative was, last time out, Ken Cuccinelli. If the GOP had managed to nominate anybody remotely moderate, McAwful would not have won.

These things go in cycles, where the Democrats dominate for a few years, then the Republicans, then the Dems again, etc .. Maybe it is the GOP's turn now.

"Right now, Democrats have to be worried about what they're seeing in the polls. President Joe Biden took the state by 10 points last year. But recently, his approval rating in numerous recent surveys has sunk below his disapproval rating, just as it has nationally."

Okay but this happens to every president. And he's only had 8 months in office. As he navigates a pandemic. Of course his ratings dropped. Give the man some time to get his policies up and running.

If we vote the GOP back in power after the shiat show of the last couple of years, we deserve everything we get.

Virginians should look at Florida or Mississippi or Texas to see just what kind of damage having a Republican governor can cause.

CNN reporting that an upcoming election is likely to be a horse race? Must be a day ending in Y.

Quality writing, too. Like this gem near the very end of pages of fearmongering:

Of course, we're getting a little ahead of ourselves here. Democrats haven't lost or come close to losing anything in Virginia just yet.

Right.

The GOP knows that every government office holds some level of power, particularly if they're willing to fully wield it.

Their base turns up to every election. POTUS, House midterms, state mid-mid-terms, school board, mayor, county commissioner, whatever - even the farking library board per a story a link or so down.

The Democrats though, a lot of them seem to think rolling out of bed to vote for POTUS every four years is plenty. Trump's continued horror show drove em to the polls, because he turned his entire presidency into a campaign for a permanent election cycle. Now things are "back to normal" there's a real danger Democratic voters go "back to normal".

And hell, aside from that 2013 race, the VA Gov race always went the opposite of the previous year's Presidental race, at least dating back to the 80s.  And then the story was always what that meant for the sitting President and if the honeymoon was over and blah blah blah.  It would seem like a bigger deal now, after the Dems winning twice in a row, for it to revert, but it would normally only be one in a row if the GOP hadn't screwed the pooch with the Cooch so amazingly in 2013.  I mean, come on, it was McAuliffe.  When he was nominated with no one running against him, everyone pretty much assumed the Gov would be handed to the GOP.  McAuliffe has the personality and history of a wet dish towel, and they somehow put up an opponent so abhorrent that a guy barely short of a seat filler managed to win.  Of course, given how McDonnell's and Northam's terms went, McAuliffe ended up being the least controversial Governor in more than a decade, so he's got that going for him.

It doesn't help McAuliffe spent the first half of his campaign spreading the same points about Youngkin as Youngkin's own campaign was promoting.

They seem to have moved away from repeating Youngkins campaign material verbatim, but so far I haven't seen any GOTV effort from them or any canvassing. It's a very low key campaign, at least from what I've seen.

I'll be honest, I am concerned. While I know this doesn't necessarily mean anything, the youngkin and Tara Durant signs out number the mcauliffe signs about 5-1. I know that my area is reddish, I hoped that we'd start that transition to purple then blue. It's just not happening... yet.

I never could figure it out, but It just occurred to me why the right is always attacking CNN and not MSNBC or other more liberal outlets.

It's because the wishy washy middle of the road "moderates" who watch that channel are the most likely to be swayed in their opinions.

Particularly to the right, not the left.

Obscure Login: I can't remember ever seeing a 'Republicans should be concerned' article. There is also never any discussion about how Republicans need to soften or change their messaging to reach people outside of the party.

Just very odd how delicately our super biased, Liberal MSM media treats the right.

It's an abusive relationship.

The more the right beats on the media for alleged bias, the more the media tries to prove itself worthy to the right, making excuses, enabling, and hoping that the right will change.

I went searching for a funny Obama comic and wound up finding multiple Ben Garrison shiatsplats.

Why is that guy so terrible? When I think of the Three Evils, there is Diablo, Mehpisto, and Baal. Ben Garrison comes really farking close.

Trump signs outnumbered Biden signs by a wide margin. That just means the kind of worthless shiat who puts up signs likes them.

Mr. Coffee Nerves: The best thing that can happen is Trump smells easy money and jumps into the race with both feet, motivating Ds and poisoning Rs.

This actually DOES seem to be the trend.

The right wing media would have you (and the Republicans) believe that Trumpism is alive and well.  But when actual people get out and make actual activity, it is pretty well shown that Trumpism is condemned.  And if that is your platform to get elected, you will lose because of it.

Now before you jump in and tell me I'm foolish to have hope...  Look at what just happened in CA.  The GOP tried to oust the governor and have him replaced with a Drumpfer.  And we saw how that worked out for them.

There is more hope than you may know.

Glenn Younkin's message of, "Vaccines are great.  I don't think you should have to get one." and, "Terry McAuliffe masturbates to the thought of your child dying in a school shooting." are very compelling to this middle-aged, white man.

Then you missed the 2012 election. Remember the "GOP Autopsy?" Where they were talking about dumping the illegal immigration stuff to reach out to the Hispanic demographic to shore up Florida and Texas, and how they needed to make inroads in the African American vote?

Yeah, they completely ignored it, and Trump was the result, but after a good trouncing the "demographics is destiny" school of thought had the GOP scared.

Frankly it still does since they have only won the popular vote once since 1988, but now they are on the "if you can't win, rug the game" kick instead of "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" way democracy is supposed to be based on.

538 has it as a consistent 3-3.5 point margin for the last month or so with a decent amount of polling. RCP's average has been 5.5-6.5 but it's tightened up to 2.8 recently on the back of a single bad poll, and that poll is a bit odd (+5 McAuliffe among adults and registered voters, flipped to +5 Youngkin among likely voters).

Also, the Republican nominee is Glenn Youngkin. Glenn "My views on abortion are so abhorrent that I can't say them aloud for fear of a hot mic" Youngkin.

"I'm going to be really honest with you. The short answer is in this campaign, I can't [discuss my views on abortion]. When I'm governor and I have a majority in the House we can start going on offense. But as a campaign topic, sadly, that in fact won't win my independent votes that I have to get."

Honestly, that's the scariest part, though. He might lose the race for governor because of his abortion views, but by not shouting them from the rooftops he might also shield down ballot candidates from blowback. And that's his implicit strategy here as he talks about having a majority in the House of Delegates. So my real worry is that him staying silent on the issue will allow some truly awful people to slip into the House under the radar.

The other thing that is (thankfully) working against Youngkin is that he opted completely out of all but 1 debate.  Granted, debates rarely make a big difference, but some of the more slightly right leaning people I've talked to in my area don't like that he doesn't have the balls to even debate McAuliffe.

Of course, the Trumpists are for him no matter what.
