Duplicating what I have on cable with streaming services would require about 8 - 10 services and cost more per month.  And cable has it all on one feed.

Yes, I have some streaming services as well.  So, I'm a media junkie.

I live with my folks out in the sticks, we have painfully terrible DSL that gives us around 400kbps.  Sometimes streaming just isn't an option.

We live out in the sticks and have fiber to the premise, in this case our cabin. No, a baby bell was NOT our phone company. We have one of them "commie cooperatives" providing phone / cable services. We're we depending on a baby bell we'd probably be lucky to get a dial tone.

Yeah it's rough. Sometimes I sit out on the deck listening to the birds and the river and look out at my acres of property and just curse my poor life choices. What led me to such a crappy life? Where did  I go wrong to deserve a mortgage payment less than the rent of a city apartment? Sometimes in my darker moments I'll just crash out in the hammock with a beer and try to forget my misery for a moment or too. Life in the sticks is a struggle but we try and get by as best we can.

A less sarcastic answer: I think alot of people don't want to pick and choose for themselves. They like traditional radio for music (or Spotify radio), TV for shows, because the choices aren't endless. Humans thrive best when we have a mix of freedom and necessity, so only being able to watch what is playing right now, albeit with a few hundred choices, is perfect for most people who aren't inclined to think for themselves. This isn't intended as an insult either, it's perfectly fine that some humans need to be led by others, it's always been that way.

our isp is yondoo , based on the east coast . i live about 7 miles inland from the pacific , but that is the only option besides sat here. Frontier has a fiber line that terminates 1 click from my park. The owner of the park is a douchebag who will not let any major cable co / isp into the park , I suspect he owns yondoo stock.
We only use the cable for internet . its over $60/month and we are lucky if we get 250mb downstream.

On the upside, my commute is under 30 minutes if I dont get stuck behind a tractor ( oh, it happens a lot ) and farming implements , and hey- the ocean is close .

Yep - with bundling discounts, tv is effectively free if you have a high speed plan. I pay $100/month for 1200Mbps and it comes with 140 channels. I probably watch 3-4 "live" shows in an entire month, so it's pointless to have it but with bundling the price difference is negligible. Plus, I get a set-top box which, ironically enough, actually makes streaming easier.
