Good.  James Harden is a great player, with great stats... who is unwatchable.  Dribbles the ball of 18 seconds, then creates a foul so that he can go to the line.

Totally agree.

Aren't these the same flopping rules that were going to stop Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili at some point?

Yeah, quit giving those cheap calls that benefit Harden, and start paying attention to the whole game! Especially my guy who gets hacked every time he shoots!

Seriously, though, the good players will adapt their game to the changes assuming it's actually enforced.  I'm sure they'll find some other way to get superstar calls.

Harden is watchable as he has much more going on than drawing fouls, even if he does it excessively. Trae on the other hand....
And he doesn't have Trae's annoying face, or if he does he isn't showing it.

It's the Kobe Bryant 3pt play, except more relevant to younger viewers.

"The ankle is healthy, but my flailing and splaying still aren't where they need to be," said Ginobili, who has begun to practice windmilling his arms and falling backward during shoot-arounds. "I'm used to throwing myself 10, sometimes 12 feet down court. At this point, I'm lucky if I'm getting 8 on a good flop. My wailing is good, but I need to be hitting the floor a lot harder than the guy hit me, if I was hit. I can't catch myself with my hands like I did in the second quarter tonight. That was bush league." Ginobili then flung himself out of the locker room, slid backward onto a bus, and tumbled wildly into his suburban home.

Seriously. the rules clearly state "3. A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man who catches the ball when running at a good speed if he tries to stop.

I'm 50/50 on this. I'm all for a no call when the offensive player jumps into a defender. But if you get your man to leave his feet AND jump towards you, that's on them if you then take a jump shot knowing you'll draw a foul.

Defenders gotta go straight up and down.

TFA says that'll still be called a defensive foul.

The biggest change for this season is that the NBA will now call an offensive foul on a player who gets a defender into the air with a pump fake and launches himself into the defender to draw a foul in an unnatural motion.
McCutchen was quick to point out -- and had several examples to back it up -- that the NBA does not want to eliminate players from pump-faking a defender into the air and drawing a foul. If an offensive player gets a defender in the air and would be fouled in a normal shooting motion, that will remain a defensive foul.

Exactly. It's to stop this crap where the defender's 5 feet from the ballhandler, jumps, and the ballhandler just launches himself into the defender while throwing the ball straight into the air.

You're quoting one of the 13 original rules from 1892 when they couldn't even dribble the ball.  A lot has changed since then my man.

And dunking.  And the shot clock.  It may be hopeful thinking, but I pine for the halcyon days where my kind of people beat other my kinds of people in a 12-10 barnburner.  Such a better product back then.

Make Basketball Great Again, follow 1892 rules

Don't get rid of threes, just make the arc the same length and don't make the court bigger. That basically removes corner threes, makes threes easier to guard, and people might have to learn to play basketball instead of three-point-contest again.

Also, maybe call fouls somewhat evenly. A shooter gets gently grazed and it's a foul; anyone in the paint can have their kidneys cut out of their bodies on the court and when they lose the ball in an attempt to get it back, it's just a turnover.

My fever dream idea is to make the game 4 on 4. Bigger court would work, too.

Yeah, but a bigger court is gonna cut into the actual money 'cause you're losing a row or two of the most expensive seats in the house.

Moving the line back and not widening the court doesn't impact revenue at all. Just makes it so it's not as valuable to have people camp in the corners.

That's 100% the reason I farking loathe him. He's good enough to not have to play that way, but chooses to anyways.

You don't even need to move the line back, just cut the farking corners.

I'm glad his brand didn't win a championship. He is an amazing talent, but I'm glad they never got past the Warriors. Ball kicking and Foot stomping aside.

So the same nba refs who can't call traveling correctly ever are the same nba refs who are now going to be making judgment calls over when hitting the shooter is ok and when it isn't?  It used to be simple - if the defender gets tricked, he pays the price. Now bad defense can get away with it.
