My kids just missed a week of school due to RSV.  Which they generously shared with me.  Pediatric nurse across the street says it's running rampant in preschools here too - and the younger the kids are, the more of a concern it is.  And we are all thankful to be having RSV instead of COVID.  (Their school of ~450-500 people has seen about 1 case/week, so far.  Weekly pooled testing starts at the beginning of October, yay.)

Not to worry.  In my experience, children LOVE muck.

If cheese curds cured Covid, Wisconsin would rule the world while Florida and Texas would ban dairy products.

Of course it is. Kids are the one age group with absolutely no level of vaccination in America today, and Wisconsin's legislature is doing their damndest to prevent anyone from enforcing meaningful ways to otherwise prevent infections.

My daughter is in her first year as a teacher (elementary school) in a very red county in Ohio. She regularly has 25% or more of her kids out sick. The school district will not institute mask mandates for fear of upsetting the MAGAt parents. She said the superintendent essentially said there's nothing he can do and that, I shiat not, everyone should pray for the end of the pandemic.

Yes, kids are going to get hit hard anywhere policies are allowing community transmission to run rampant because so many of them are unvaccinated, and this is true regardless of what the schools themselves are doing.

Fascist right AM radio propaganda has rotted more brains in my home state than CWD could ever hope to. Or maybe that has something to do with it. Hard to say, honestly.

And while their kids are home or in the hospital sick the parents will be outside of schools protesting mask mandates for children's.

Between the hicks who think it can't happen here because my nearest neighbor is 200 yards away, the dipshiats in the suburbs listening to the likes of Mark Belling, and the urban poor who don't have time or resources to get their kids shots yeah this seems the likely outcome.

That's because kids don't turn legal drinking age until 13 in Wisconsin. The turpentine helps kill germs.

Ahem.

Last year, Gov. Tony Evers mandated masks in Wisconsin schools under an emergency health order. The state Supreme Court later overturned that order, leaving it up to individual school districts to decide what to do.

If a lot of kids are infected, the virus can mutate to match the hosts.
A virus spread by children not wearing masks is so 2020/2021.

Doesn't mean it still doesn't get used.  Health Dept's in the area have been trying to more outside of regular hours.  During a Mexican Independence day festival earlier this month there was a tent set up which was commendable but still have a long way to go to protect vulnerable people on the north and south sides of Milwaukee.

No, but rich white men ruled, women,  children and POC were chattel and anything that went wrong could be blamed on a (usually blameless) sinner. Ah! Good times!

I mean. Evers can't do shiat when the WI GOP knocks down mandates and cuts him off at the knees every chance they get.

On August 31, the school board in NFDL voted down a mask mandate. As of today, they reinstated it. My local groups are back at the "tyrannnnnyyy" commentpalooza.

One of the reasons I quit my job a few months ago is because my coworkers were constantly complaining about how hard it was to be in lockdown ... when they were still attending large gatherings, two traveled across state lines at the height of our case/death spike ... and some routinely posted pictures to social media of large gatherings they were at. I used to like it here, for the most part. Now it's clear it's all "Midwest Nice" - I think they call it. Nobody actually gives a damn about each other.

Pretty much. Daughter goes to one district and wife teaches in one down the road. I am working from home today as we're waiting on daughter's test results from earlier today. These two districts are trying for the most part, the parents couldn't give two shiates.

Some doctors early in the pandemic were predicting that lockdowns and isolation would lead to an "immunity deficit," particularly in children, and that it would have to ultimately be repaid via increased amounts of infection from various diseases. Looks increasingly like they were right.

Now the article doesn't mention Wisconsin or children.

That which you didn't get last year will try again this year... since I'm a very-much-NON-kid and still trying to get over RSV after almost a week, I sure hope it isn't something that mutates every year.
