Every two years? I would be like so? But this is about money on FIFA's part.

But you'd basically eviscerating the players.  Qualifications already take months.  They would be essentially doing nothing but seesawing between qualifying and competing, qualifying and competing.  Either clubs would only allow absolute scrubs to leave the roster to play for the national teams, or some nations would just intentionally tank each qualifying cycle so they don't kill their players.  It isn't like the Olympics where an entirely different set of athletes compete alternately - your flaying the same farkers each time.  And player exhaustion is already a problem.  No way you exacerbate that and see no consequences.

There are 210 national teams in the Men's FIFA rankings. Eliminate the qualifying and just have a single elimination tournament with all of them. Who wouldn't be excited to watch San Marino and Anguilla in the play-in round? Which upstart will thrill soccer fans with a string of upsets before losing by double digits the first time they play a "real" team? Find out as the World Cup becomes truly the World Cup!

Apparently they looked at the way cricket was doing things, and said "we want a piece of that".

Expect them to push 7-on-7 competition and 15-minute games next.

more likely tanking the other intercontinental tournaments and devaluing them to the point it's not worth having them. It's a cash grab by FIFA and the cash gotta come from somewhere, and it's not like most of the national teams will go past the first couple of divisions to find talent even though technically they could.

At least we are still getting some good competition in cricket. International football has a generally shiatty quality of play already, now we get even more of it? How about this? Make the WC every 8 years instead? Have the women play every 2 years if you want.

And this is why capitalism left unchecked always turns out this way. Just like the "Super League" some European clubs want to do to kill the golden goose of the Champion's League, FIFA can't just sit back and be happy to have an extremely lucrative, iconic world event without thinking,  "Hmm, this makes us a lot of money...but how can we make even more???" Entirely foreseeable, inevitable consequences be damned.

So twice as many countries can bankrupt themselves hosting in the same amount of time.  Brilliant!

International team soccer quality is crap because they don't train and compete together with enough consistency and continuity for the best quality it could be.  It's still fun but 4 years is plenty.
Champions League is a celebration of teams that were good a year ago.  That needs to be revamped, too.
/Soccer is so loved and it could still be so much better.

Yep.

This about about replacing the European, African, and South American nations cups with a competition that FIFA skims the money from and not the regional bodies.

FIFA's only real income stream is the men's world cup so if they want a lot more money they either have to do a two year world cup or go begging bowl in hand to UEFA.

Did FIFA see the media coverage of Christian Ericksen and say "How can we get more of that?"

A WC every two years is either going to literally kill players or render the event completely meaningless. Unless the aim is to kill Champions and Europa League, which is probably the point.

FIFA is the most corrupt organization in the world, even post-Blatter. Formula1 is jealous.

I don't think I've ever once sided with FIFA, or any of the regional football governing bodies when there's a some sort of tiff between them and club teams (aside from the Super League fiasco, at least). Club teams invest millions in their players via wages, training & development, etc. National teams just swoop in every so often to send them to faraway places for condensed training and fixture lists and have no problem sending them back to their club team as a broken, injured husk of a player with little more than a "lol, sorry he tore his hamstring in the second half of a 6-0 victory against Moldova. Hope he recovers by the next international break."

Again, this would be much less of an issue if a larger proportion of a national side would come from outside the top divisions. A larger shop window for people who don't normally get a break, and most of the premier talent gets the night off.

No.  Every 4 years is perfect.  Sometimes less is more.

Neither UEFA or CONMEBOL are happy with this. Could they put up a united front and boycott it? A world cup without the europeans and south americans would be worthless.

Add CONCACAF too. FIFA loves that sweet American corporate money truck.  Plus my liver can't take complaining about US Mutant Ninja Turtles every 2 years. I need recovery time.

A two year cycle would be mamma from heaven for the USMNT. There would onlybe half as much time forsoccer fans to mock and shame them for not qualifying. There would be twice as much vacay time while World cups were being played. And they would get twice the equal rights media  goodwill AND get paid twice as much World Cup cash from the USWNT now that they duped the girls into signing an equal pay profit sharing contract.

They may not know much about playing soccer but they can play the system like a boss

The USA would have a chance to win it then. LOL.

Gary Neville's rant on the super league also applies to this money grab by FIFA.

And leading the charge for *this* money-grab by FIFA? Arsene Wegner, who, when he was still managing Arsenal, would have been *livid* at such a thing even being rumored.

The fact the moved their HQ from the shores of Lake Zurich to a literal hole in the ground was a power move by that architect.

They've created a short version that can be played in 3 hours (called Twenty20), and the Indians have made a lot of money from TV rights with that.  English and Australian players go to India and play 20 'domestic' matches for a crap-ton of cash, and want to beg off from the 5-day international matches.
