I wonder if volcano smoke is like fire smoke, and ruins a house in the same way.

According to the story, nobody, including the people who own the house.

Why would you want to live in a house surrounded by a lava field? That shiat is barren. No trees or plants. The road (I'm guessing) is also covered. It sounds farking terrible.

scientists are not sure how long the eruption will last.

I hate that questions like this even get asked. Sure thing, Karen, I'll let Mother Earth know that she needs to get things wrapped up by next Saturday for your baby shower.

I worry that their insurance will screw them, given they technically have no damage but the home is clearly now uninhabitable.

2021-09-24 1:11:00 PM
Is it even possible to get home insurance in a place like this or, if the volcano erupts, are you just out one house?

Just what I was thinking. You know that house is dead to the world. The infrastructure all around it is destroyed. It's useless now.

I'm sure he'll still be yucking it up when he tries to get to the house.

Please.
The article says folks are calling it the miracle house.
If the house survives this, it will be a gold mine.

If he has a lick of sense, he can use this to  fleece religious rubes forever.

I think they made the roof orange as camouflage.  The lava thinks the house is already one of them.

People on social media have dubbed the residence in La Palma a "miracle house".
The volcano started erupting on Sunday. More than 200 homes have been destroyed and about 6,000 people evacuated.

Yeah, a miracle...

The owners probably already regret that it was not destroyed, their insurance probably does not cover the house being fine but unusable because everything around was destroyed.

Yeah, that's the problem with building a house that can stand up to a natural disaster.

The heat of lava will burn wood sure as any other ignition source, but volcano smoke is full of sulfur compound gases and vaporized rock. Probably a different sort of mess compared to ordinary smoke damage. Likely will smell of rotten eggs for years.

The was a house isolated by lava just like this on the Big Island of Hawaii in a development called Royal Gardens.  It was famous for quite a while, the guy who lived there rode a dirt bike 1-2 miles into town for supplies, and it was a well-known attraction.  Eventually the volcano took it out too.
