What were they thinking when they put them in? Someone must have been extremely drunk to think it was a good idea.

You know what they say about Episcopalians...show me four Episcopalians on a street corner, and I'll show you a fifth.

It's an Episcopal cathedral. I grew up in the Australian Anglican Church which is as I understand it more closely related to the Church of England but basically the same thing.

The church I grew up in had both conservative and liberal arms. When, in 2017, we had a national plebiscite about same sex marriage (and we're not a nation that usually puts issues to plebiscite, the last major issue which went to plebiscite was WW1 conscription, our shiatty national anthem went to a plebiscite in 1972 or something but that's not a major issue) most Anglicans voted Yes in favour of same sex marriage but the conservatives running the NSW diocese gave a million dollars to the No campaign, much to the horror of many.

Good on them for dicking the confedaracy but way too late to be considered an act of decency. Grow up, christians, especially those of you who claim to be non-racist and liberal. WTF was the confederate flag doing flying in an episcopal cathedral well into this century?

My point is christians suck, and thanks subby for confirming it.

This is great, but for me the best part is the cathedral loaning one of the windows to a museum where it will be displayed in contacts as an effort to suppress black voices and minimize their experience. Anything that helps tear down the myth of Robert E Lee is a good thing for this nation.

Today I learned that the National Cathedral had stained glass windows honoring the Confederacy through the civil rights era and Obama's presidency.

Why would Episcopalians be hanging out on a street corner like commoners?

It was installed in 1953. Civil rights was very much on the mind of the people who put it in

"Hey National Cathedral, do you want some money for the general construction fund?"
"Yes please various lost cause groups"
"Cool here's a bag full of money but we want two stained glass windows with Jackson and Lee on them."
"Deal."

And thats how a cathedral started on the early 1900's gets stained glass windows installed in 1953 of Lee and Jackson.

Better late than never.

A pair of windows celebrating equality and justice would be more than appropriate.

If Biden has a really bad day, can he still go there, curse God in Latin, and take a single drag off of a cigarette before stomping it out on the marble?

I'm FINALLY getting around to watching The Wire and I'm right in the middle of season 2. It's a good show, sure - but the greatest TV show of all time? Ehhh, that's a stretch.

You still have two seasons to watch. Season one is expository, and most find season two to be the weakest. It's just a shame that they didn't make a fifth season where the press could be an example of what's broken in this country.

Should be replace by stained glass representations of the removals of the windows and the Lee statue. It would preserve history and explain the whole thing.

I wonder if insurrectionists have it in them to storm a (albeit secular) church.
