Facelift!

2021-09-23 8:07:40 PM
1991 was a good year for rock.

One of my favorite college moments was in a packed-to-the-gills apartment kitchen, about 25 kids all jumping around to B.A.D.'s Rush.

Oh and there's Ned's Atomic Dustbin - I probably had about 15 of their t-shirts at one point.

shiat, I probably have a teenage rock n roll heyday anecdote for almost every album on this list.

No, no it doesn't. Unless by "less remembered" you mean "Jesus, stop it already!".
That was actually a pretty solid list of less popular albums that (mostly) still hold up.

Maybe not whining, but Axl Rose's caterwauling was like fingers on a chalkboard to me.

Slash coming out of the water in "Estranged" was the best scene in Rock video.

"November Rain" still holds up today, probably one of the best music videos ever made; it aged like wine. Compare it to the latest YouTube video.

Kristin Hersh was 9 months pregnant in that video, so they only filmed her from the shoulders up. Because I guess women aren't supposed to rock if they're with child or something.

But I still love that song and the video.

In highschool I had a Ned's Atomic Dustbin Tshirt.  On the front it said "We've talked about it" and on the back it said "Now let's F**k" (with the stars).  I wore it to school and the first teacher who saw it made me turn my shirt inside out :/

Also no Chapterhouse: Whirlpool?  I know shoegaze is not everyone's bag but that was a solid album.

I moved from the midwest to Los Angeles in 1991. From a place where radio stations got hate calls for playing The Cure to a place that had The Pixies in heavy rotation. I need to sit down and think up a playlist of cool stuff KROQ had on.

Dear Jerk: I need to sit down and think up a playlist of cool stuff KROQ had on.

shiat on his political views but his documentaries are aweseome; Adam Carolla has been working on a KROQ documentary for a few years.  Hope it drops soon because I'd love to see it.  He talks to a ton of 70s, 80s, etc folks, the originators, band who got their start there.

I don't think Badmotorfinger was exactly overlooked in 1991 or at any time after.  Overlooked is the point of TFA.
