That was definitely a battle for dominance on display there. Yamiche Alcindor is really good at this, and so is Jen Psaki.

"Watch above, via Fox News."

Yeah. Fark Fox News and the 1488 insurrectionist they give jobs to. Sorry that I get irritated over Fox News, but I don't understand why other media treats Fox as a source.

Thanks for giving fox news their farking talking point.

This is what all Press Corps interactions should look like.  True professionals challenging the administration with good faith questions and then holding their feet to the fire with well thought out follow ups, not looking to score points and generate sound bites and gotcha moments.  Yamiche Alcindor is one of the great reporters of our age.

No it is not totally cool and it is exactly like I said.

The situation is farked up. Calling is slavery and saying it was whipping gave true right their talking point and they can say they're just repeating an old black democratic woman, so why do you hate blacks and women.

It is already happening in the right wing derposphere.

I'm not about to criticize Biden for not speaking directly to the people about this, but when the special enjoy to Haiti resigns in protest, that is a real bad look. Deporting these poor people back to Haiti is monstrous. Indeed, deporting anyone is. This country is obscenely wealthy and has tons of room.

/OK if you're like, a terrorist or something you should be deported. But not if you're a refugee.

Horses are not the problem, Jen. The whole system is.

It strikes me that Biden is just trying to ban the provocative images rather than attack the horror within our system.

Literally nothing was said or discovered in this back and forth.

What are we applauding here?

Perhaps the linked article, if there was something useful here, could present that instead of "oh snap look at her shut down everything".

Or am I wrong to be more interested in the "specific actions" Biden taking than whether someone got told?

Yeah it is absolutely immoral, much less inhumane, to be deporting people who come here looking for shelter, and it's a violation of international law. The problem is that's how our immigration law is written, and every POTUS must enforce these absurd laws in creative ways that either create a humanitarian disaster (in the case of Trump's family separation) or force them concoct legally dubious policy (as in the case of Obama's DACA) whenever large groups of people begin showing up at the border and they can't be processed for asylum in any semblance of a timely manner.

Watching the last couple of White House briefings, Jen Psaki has made clear that Biden is leaning on Congress to reform immigration so that he and future Administrations can manage these crises in a more humane way than what we're doing now. Immigration law hasn't been updated in something like 30 years, and what we've got now is not realistic.

With climate change causing unrest all over the world, every rich country contending with this issue, and we all need to put away the swords and the walls and help them, because their crises were likely either created or made worse by our actions and activities.

GOP: OMG Biden isn't being humane to Afghanis & Haitians.

Also GOP: Biden refuses to protect our borders and he's housing Afghani terrorists within our border.

Biden should completely stop GAF what the GOP says. There will never be a correct response for them. And the media perpetuates it all.

Bill Clinton's biggest failure for America was deregulating the telecom industry.

Counterpoint: Mitch McConnell & the rest of the GOP.

Biden's hands are tied and he's literally damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.

Unless the democrats make substantial gains in 2022 we're basically f*cked in every area of government. IMO

The GOP's standing orders are to delay and obstruct long enough for the GOP to regain complete power. And if they were to take back the house and the senate in 2022 & 2024, as well as the presidency in 2024, I guarantee you if it's not trump winning it, it will be someone much smarter and the country will go down really fast.

I still haven't seen anyone definitively say how they're getting to South America and Mexico in the first place.

Someone is paying to get them there. That's a long farking journey. Over lots of water.

Whoever is first, telling these people they can just get in, second actually shipping them to Mexico, and thirdly... if someone is taking their money.... You can't just fly into Mexico. It's not Somalia. You can't just walk from South America to the US border in two weeks... Someone if bringing these people. That is what's monstrous.

Tinfoil hat time, but I am betting there's a dark money trail.

The problem for the Biden administration is that progressives are joining the GOP in the first complaint (and decidedly not the second), because what they're doing is abhorrent.

I see you, yet again, have no clue about anything here. There was whipping.

Also, would you consider a minimum wage of $5.11/day slave wages? What about half that as Hillary Clinton pushed the Haitian government for through her career as Secretary of State?

What about inadequate buildings? Or a purposefully suppressed education system?

Basically, what you had was thousands fleeing their abhorrent conditions and CBP rounding them up to send them to Gitmo.

Yeah I'm not even worried about Trump. I hope he runs so Biden can beat him again. He won't win. There's too much opposition and he's maxed out his base of support. 2016 was a fluke, and a failed experiment by some voters who wanted to try an inexperienced outsider, and many of them knew by 2018 and especially by 2020 that experiment was a failure.

What is more insidious are the experienced Confederate-minded politicians... McConnell, Cruz, Cotton come to mind, and the strangely subservient politicians like McCarthy and occasionally Graham. They are a menace to any progress in this country, Trump or no Trump.

It's not much farther from Cuba to Florida than from Cuba to Cancun. It's even less water to go through the Virgin Islands to get to Trinidad and Tobago.

There's also the possibility of stowaways.

No surprise that she's tough, after those years dragging Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.

I mean, I can answer the reporter's question: Biden isn't condemning this because he supports it.

He was part of the Obama administration, and directly consulted on a lot of international policy issues such as sending out murder-drones to commit a massive stream of war crimes against civilians more or less exclusively.  Even outside of that, he's one of the people who voted for the patriot act and literally the person who wrote the most directly and intentionally racist law in US politics since the '80s, to the point that being that bill's sponsor is his primary political legacy.

Like... make whatever moral judgements you like and for sure acknowledge that Trump was still worse on all counts, but like... the reason Biden isn't doing anything about this is that he's 100% for it and it's super on-brand for him when it comes to actual actions, regardless of how good he is at staring at you through the camera and cynically exploiting his (entirely real and legitimate, to be clear, he's not faking it) personal tragedies to tell you how much empathy he has and how much you want to have a beer with him or whatever the fark.

But sure, Psaki is coherent and competent and better at her job than the last crop of bumbling morons who had it, that's definitely the important thing to take away from this interaction and not that it was a legitimate question that deserved to be actually addressed instead of papered over with meaningless platitudes.

Like... that the actions taken were "specific" is the farking problem, they're symbolically firing one or two guys for the crime of making the administration look bad and continuing to reform our farking literal nazi unit of a border patrol in zero ways.

So, they somehow island hopped completely across the Caribbean, I don't know if you're suggesting the walked across each island or bought bus tickets, or what... but you've ignored that every nation along the way has their own immigration system and patrols looking for refugees...

But you're speculating more than me. I just want to know how all these refugees got where they are, rather quickly, and focused in one location, more or less.

Maybe they water skied?

There's been some reporting on this but I'm sure it's not exactly common knowledge.

Nearly all Haitians reach the U.S. on a well-worn route: Fly to Brazil, Chile or elsewhere in South America. If jobs dry up, slowly move through Central America and Mexico by bus and on foot to wait - perhaps years - in northern border cities like Tijuana for the right time to enter the United States and claim asylum.

The Homeland Security Secretary is quoted as saying this particular influx was unusually sudden.

This was compared to slavery by one person. Some people disagree with this.

Therefore, if you think this is bad, you believe it it worse than slavery.

If you don't think this is worse than slavery, you believe this is a good thing.

Are they actually firing anybody?

I can't find any article on it and nobody gets fired this fast anyway.

They'll find a few things in investigations:
1. No whips.
2. No whippings (none I've seen as yet)
3. A guy's horse knocked over a Haitian. Not good.
4. The one agent couldn't restrain himself from shiat talking. Unacceptable.

If 4 got people fired half of CBP wouldn't have their jobs. 3, damn near every time Leos use animals, will be "oopsie, animals gonna animal".

I won't hold my breath that anyone loses their job. And frankly, as long as the federal government is tasking agents with physically deterring entry, I'm not sure anyone should. "stop these guys from coming in, but don't push them when they approach to move past you" is kind of impossible.
