I have two sisters and each of them is three years older than I am. One of them had a boyfriend who was really into boxing. I owned

for Genesis. I'd beaten the game multiple times. He was certain he could beat me. I let him pick whoever he wanted and I picked the guy with the worst stats in the game. My sister figured this would be amusing and decided to watch.

It went 12 rounds. He knocked me down twice in the last round but I got up and he couldn't get the TKO.

I lost by decision but the fact that it went 12 rounds was hilarious.

He didn't enjoy me raising my arms and yelling "Adriannnnnnn!" but my sister found it funny. XD

This week has been a lot of No Man's Sky: Frontiers. Though the new Mechwarrior DLC dropped today as well so that will be my weekend for sure. Also a bit of Rimworld and Factorio.

Rimworld has too many stories to tell so I will submit a short video (not mine) of what the basic experience is like.

A mixed bag of gaming this last week.  I bought Valheim and started a game with some friends.  It doesn't seem much different from any other survival/crafting game out there.  I'm not sure why it seems so popular.  I played some more Terraria.  I can't get past any of the hard mode bosses, so I am getting annoyed.  I also got the free monthly mech in Mechwarrior Online and CS:GO dropped a new operation, so playing that too...

Funny story.  Back in 'tha day', my group of friends would play Goldeneye.  Myself and another guy (Buck) were very good at the game, and the other two kind of crap.  One day, in order to even things up, we decided to have a large sip of a drink (some cheap whisky if I remember right) on every kill.  Half an hour later Buck and I were absolutely hammered... and still winning by a large margin.  We had to eventually call it to avoid real life death.  We then watched south park and the entire Star Wars trilogy on Laserdisc to sober up enough to drive home.

Good times.

Life is being, well, life so I can only do a bit of grinding in World of Warships and Star Citizen. Really want to play Deathloop through, though.

This week's Satisfactory update.  I decided to try a new base layout design while diving in to see what it takes for Nuclear power.

Here's a new take on a factory layout:
Fark user imageView Full Size

Using mergers, belts, and smart splitters, I created a big loop at the start of the factory on the left, then pull off resources as needed to process and put on the next loop on the right.  The right side of the factory processes the items, and puts them on a higher tier on the right hand loop.

Fark user imageView Full Size

This is possible because of the ability to splice in a merge or split directly into a conveyor line, making it really simple to add more factory processing down the line.

This new setup has it's pluses and minuses.  It does take up a more space, but it's much easier to keep things organized and very, very scalable, making it almost ideal for a general factory layout where you are making a bit of everything from various resources.  It's rather useless for something like I've done here, though, with a focused factory build on a few items for a specific purpose (making all the non-radioactive parts for nuclear fuel rods, in this case).  I could have done this particular factory much more compact, but it was a test.

Another benefit is that if you have multiple lines of the same part (say, 2,900 screws over 4 lines), you can add load balancers right to the stack:
Fark user imageView Full Size

Now no matter which line I pull from, the load balancer will allow the all the screw production to backfill the starving lane. When I start fresh, this is definitely the layout I'm going with for the general lower tier production lines.

Waaaay back in the mid-late 90s, I was settling in to play some Tie Fighter CD. I was clearing that Tie Bomber tutorial level where you're taking out containers and such. I know there's a practice freighter coming, so I stop and settle in to wait for it.

Game: "Freighter arriving at 0kms"
Me: "... Uhhh... *turns my stopped ship*
Freighter hyperspaces in right on top of me, so close I actually pass between the onboard containers.
Me: "UWAUUGH! *throws arms over face*

My roommate did not let me live that down for quite some time. :)

To the surprise of no one I'm still playing Breath of the Wild.

After my first attempt at the final boss in the Champion's Ballad failed horribly I left to "git gud." I powered up my armors a bunch (powered up the wrong one, should have just stuck with the gimp suit) and found a way to cheese 11 fairies into my pockets. Which I didn't need.

During this time I also killed all the monsters for the Kilton Medals. I got very good at one-hitting Talus, and taking out Hinox pretty quick.

When I got back to the final boss it was far easier than I remember. Only needed Mipha once right near the end.

Got my Master Cycle. It's neat. Still don't use it.

Fark user imageView Full Size

I still need to finish the Trial of the Sword but I need a bit more practice...

So to try and get that practice I started a Master Mode game. Figuring if I can get through some of that I might be able to figure out the trial.

Hero's Path of the Great Plateau - Master Mode
Youtube NR4hNod57AY

My one death on the Great Plateau was from some mob sleeping in the grass as I was trying to sneak around. The marker off to the East is Outpost Ruins where you get the quest to find Majora's Mask. Which has become a crutch. I get to walk around pretty much anywhere and the mobs don't bother me.

I haven't done much. I've been putting almost all my spirit orbs into stamina, only one new heart so far. That makes Shrine with Guardians, even the little ones, a pain in the ass.

Tarry Town is done, though!

Still my first factory and not up to nuclear yet...It's a great thing to do for a brain / news break.  Don't have to worry about food, oxygen etc. (like I do with Empyrion)

Based on your design, I clearly need to up my cement production.  :)

Because my brain is melted from work and I don't really feel like playing any games that require logistical thinking (like finishing my 20+ year Rimworld colony or playing Factorio or something,) I started another run of Mount and Blade: Bannerlord.

I almost certainly will not finish or create a lasting dynasty this time either, but every so often it is nice to start as a random nobody and ride around hitting motherfarkers in the face with a mace until you become so powerful it gets boring.

I was able to dodge the game since I didn't have a computer that could play it.

Sadly, another week with little gaming in it as I am having to work on a massive order we need to get shipped in the next few days & I'm about 70% done with it after three days of messing with it. But if I have to do one week of hard work every 6-8 weeks & then coast, that seems good to me.

As for the QoTW: I'm going off the normal path with my story as I was trying to think of one I hadn't posted here as part of something else, so if the is a repeat, forgive me. So years ago I was at a local water/golf/racing park trying to figure out "The Late's" trackball technique for playing fighting games. All I really did was end up turning my knuckles and a couple of arcade machines bloody. Luckily, the place knew me, so they were fairly cool about it.

Anyhow, after I used the first aid kit to patch myself up, I decided to hop into the last laser tag game as they were just getting ready to do the intro/safety speech for the player, like they did before every laser tag game. So I take my seat over on one side and nod to the crew member doing it. After he got thru all that, he went to make teams. There were three kids (somewhere between 16-19 or so) talking all big how they were going to wreck everyone. Then when they found out it was teams, they were going wreck the other team. First Mate Skippy walks over to me and goes "Everyone seated to the left of here (making an up & down motion next to my left arm) is the Green team. Thing was, to the other side of his motion was me. Just me. Me alone. Everyone except me was like "Huh?" He replied they try to keep games fair and that's what he was doing: keeping it fair. The three wise ass kids really start trash talking and say they are willing to bet on the outcome. F.M.S. gets them up to $20 each and says OK, time to get your guns & off we go.

The game ends and Skippy (not his real name as I forgot it over the years) is standing at the exit door, looks at the 3 teens and goes "Pay now or do you need the score sheets first?" OH, they want the scores! There were a whole lot of zeroes and a couple of people managed 10..maybe 20 points. Me? Well, the Red team got over 1200 points. Eventually, they paid up & grumbled as they walked off. I just handed Skip a ten, he gave me back two $20's and we each left $30 better off than when the game started.

Working my way through the Crown Tundra DLC in Pokemon Sword and Shield. I've had some good success with Dynamax Adventures.  I finished the Calyrex task, and I'm now working on the Regis and the Legendary Birds. I've also been on a catching spree filling in gaps in my Poke Dex. Quick Balls are quickly becoming my new favorite.

Made it to Stark Mountain in Pokemon Platinum and stopped Charon.  Now I need to go back and catch Heatran.  I finally got my Kirlia to Level 50 so it would learn Hypnosis, and I evolved it to Gallade. Once I get done on Stark Mountain, I'll be heading back to the mainland to try and catch the Legendary Birds that are roaming.  God...those are such a pain in the ass.

Hollow Knight

I had never played it, but decided I wanted to give it a go. So I finally finished it over the last weekend. I got to pretty far before traveling became super tedious and I wasn't finding anything new... So I beat the Hollow Knight so I could feel justified installing a mod. Turns out I was 82% complete. So, I discovered Bench Warp is the greatest thing of all time. Without it, I felt the game was so tedious I was ready to be done. With it, new life.

I then proceeded to use guides to find all the remaining things in the game including as many charms, slots, masks, and orbs as possible. I got the better ending and guides got me pretty far. But Nightmare King Grimm was too brutal. So I went to godhome and got through the first few pantheons. That went fine until NKG was there, too. In the end, there's 3 fights in the game I just couldn't get down. NKG, Pure Vessel, and Absolute Radiance. I also did not enjoy the White Palace at all, and thus have opted not to do Path of Pain.

I was forced to admit defeat at 109%, so I install another mod to lower charm costs and finally take down all 3 of them, but holy crap some people are obviously vastly more patient than I am too learn those signals and patterns and react properly.

I have finished Hollow Knight at 112% in 36 hours with an asterisk, but I don't regret it. What a great game. Lots of fun. I don't plan to replay for a 10hr or 5hr Speedrun, and there's a few other endings and achievements I can't get in my one playthrough. But, I am looking forward to Silksong.

I have just began Ori and the Blind Forest. I am playing the definitive edition, and aside from the saving/death mechanics I like the game. The story is completely too slow, and having to rewatch cutscenes because of not saving just before events I don't know are going to happen, I do get fairly offput on occasion. Other than that, I'm enjoying it.

I've been doing more tabletop gaming the last couple weeks... mostly in anticipation of getting my Haslab pre-order of the revamped Heroquest.

So we've broken out a few fantasy-themed board games like Cave Troll and Drakon. But this week my kids and I dug out my our older homebrew tabletop RPG. The homebrew is essentially Heroquest under the hood, but every "adventure" is a combination of a home village, outdoor encounters, and finally a dungeon. All played with modular 8x8 and 10x10 tiles and inexpensive 15mm fantasy miniatures.

Not a lot of gaming this week. Played around in Star Citizen a bit to try and fly decoupled mode a bit (since that is, apparently, the "true" way to fly). Went alright. Flew my Razor around Yela a bit before crashing into a mountain I didn't yeet away from fast enough. Still need some practice.

Also working on a machinima series. I've got some voice actors working on some lines and tossing them their versions this weekend, hopefully will get some shooting done with the ones that want to act in it.

It's not just Plus members. You can put your name in the "hat" even if you just have a PSN account.

I've got a few but those emails don't go to my inbox so I don't get notified. I actually have to look at the PSN folder to see it. Not that I had the money, but I've had my chances to not get scalped or bundled.

There will probably be a price drop and revision before they are readily available to the masses.

Firing up Valheimfor the first time since our group killed off Yagluth on the previous run through on one of my servers.  Wiped the server and put the old world on a second server for posterity (Running it in docker containers makes life sooooo much easier).
The 8 people playing on my servers all agreed to dump all their gear in chests within Server #2 and show up to the new world naked with empty inventories.  Looking forward to playing through it again with a fresh start, and experiencing all the new content from the Hearth and Home update.

First funny gaming story that comes to mind was in the late 90's playing Counter-Strike, I think it was version 1.2 or 1.3.  Definitely pre-Steam.  I had dabbled in the Hammer world editor, back when "knife arena" maps were stupid fun, put together a decent set of surface textures from Super Mario 3, and built "ka_mario" map.  The map was simple, there was a large hilly ground area, mushroom tree platforms, and breakable bricks and question blocks.  Gravity was set pretty low for some good Mario jumping.  The flow of the level was simple.  Everyone spawns down on the ground, there's a rush to get up to the very top of the map, where I placed a question block with a TMP in it.  So, everyone would rush there stabbing at eachother, trying to get their hands on that one gun, and win the round.  Sessions on this map would go all night, with the AdminMod voting module basically keeping it in rotation all night and long into the morning hours by the players that would continue to vote for it.  It was probably some of the dumbest multiplayer gaming fun, but it continually kept myself and others giggling like idiots till the wee hours of the morning.

Not much in the way of gaming this week. I did play about 45 minutes of Dark Souls (X360 version) trying to show my boys how to do co-op as early as possible. Got to Andre and just need to run past the metal pig to get the soapstone which would allow co-op and have not fought any boss beyond the Asylum Demon.

Went to a Royals game last Sunday, so no D&D. Planning on playing this weekend though.

My funny/amusing gaming anecdotes are the weird ways I play some games. Kinda like a Pokemon Nuzlock run, I tend to give myself extra challenges in some games to either make them interesting or to see how the game handles certain things. For instance, I played Skyrim with no dragons by never talking to the Jarl of Whiterun. I did the entirety of all other possible sidequests, got to max level, had all shouts discovered before fighting the first dragon. I played GTA 3, SA, and VC to 100% with mission stats of 0 deaths/failures/busts. I know, I'm weird.

If you want just funny though: The D&D starter set comes with a module called Lost Mines of Phandelver. In the first cave/dungeon, there is a bugbear named Klarg who is the boss of a bunch of goblins. In one campaign I was a player in, the entire party wiped fighting him, but one player kept rolling natural 20s to stabilize, so he would get up, yell "Where you going! We ain't done yet!" and managed to win the fight. In the campaign I DMed for my kids, the rouge went up and harassed the boss and his minions, so they start zeroing in on her, only for the boss to roll 2 nat 1s and fail a DC15 Dexterity saving throw, which in the house rules I was using at the time, meant the boss critically fumbled so hard he killed himself, saving the party (no cheese involved).

iggyskuz: clkeagle: I've been doing more tabletop gaming the last couple weeks... mostly in anticipation of getting my Haslab pre-order of the revamped Heroquest.

All played with modular 8x8 and 10x10 tiles and inexpensive 15mm fantasy miniatures.

wait they did a revamp/updated heroquest?

Yep. It was launched on Hasbro Pulse last year to raise the funds for it. They even got Joe Manganiello to do a quest pack for it (it didn't hit that funding tier, but apparently he convinced them to release it anyway). There's a couple more quest packs for the backers, including another one from the original designer.

Once those orders are shipped (supposed to be the next 2-3 months), they'll sell it through Avalon Hill. The two most common original expansions (Kellar's Keep and Return Of The Witch Lord) are going to be available right away, and a product code for The Frozen Horror has also been leaked in the last few days.

Played Valhiem for the first time last night with a group of regulars on a private server.   One of the guys likes to build and craft.   When we started, he had just begun building a lodge for us.  I was clearing land like I was Weyerhaeuser in the 80s.    By the time I logged off, the lodge was about 8 stories high and had everything but a hot tub in it.   Dude was the only guy left playing.

Next time I check in I expect it will look like the ski lodge at Vail.

I've been playing Rise of Industry, Mass Effect (Legendary Edition), and a little bit of Going Medieval. Slow paced game play for me for the most part this week because this week was insane at work.

Any coop game has a chance for shenanigans. I've shared the State of Decay video where my buddy blew up because of tethering, and Rampage Knights provided a ton of hilarious moments (and really solid game play).

But the most broken game? Human Fall Flat.
