If it happened a couple months ago then her Wikipedia page is way out of date. Or possibly you are thinking of another girl who sold her meme as an NFT. (Disaster Girl? Clingy Girlfriend?)

A certificate of authenticity for a digital good. Doesn't mean you have the original, doesn't mean you have the only one. Just that you have one.

Technically, a non-fungible token is just anything that's unique. You print out a bunch of pictures of a smiley face, they're fungible - each is identical, and you could swap one for another without anyone noticing. But say you sign one - now it's non-fungible, since it's unique. A non-fungible token is "anything that's unique". That could be a signed Banksy original, the Mona Lisa, a domain name, etc.

Well, a Banksy original or the Mona Lisa arguably have some value, but an image of the Overly Attached Girlfriend doesn't, particularly since she arguably released it into the public with an implied license to let anyone use and reproduce it. But say she signed it! Now it's worth something, right? Well, to the idiot who paid $411k for her "signed" copy, it was.

In essence, they're unique certificates of authenticity on a thing that everyone else has an identical unauthenticated copy of, so that you can brag that you own the one authenticated one. But it has literally no use other than bragging rights. And money laundering. But we don't like to talk about that part.

Tricking stupid people into buying a JPEG as if digital assets have any scarcity that which the price can be driven on.  But with blockchain technology, so it's also an ecological disaster.

I had braces (headgear and all) at eight. Yes, my overbite was that bad, and having a smaller mouth in general (dentists hate me) didn't help. Prior to and in prep for the braces I also had some teeth yanked before they even came in.

At least I was done (but for the retainers) before high school.

1. The "when" and "how many" regarding teeth falling out can vary greatly between children.

2. Correcting alignment and spacing of baby teeth can be beneficial for how the adult teeth come in later.

To straighten our daughters' top teeth when she was eight, the dentist pulled both of her baby eyeteeth to make room. She didn't have braces she had retainers I had to adjust I think every two weeks between visits.

Yeah, my son is 9 and has had an expander retainer, the one with the key you turn every night.  And now he just has the single bar retainer that's glued behind his top front teeth.  We'll see if he needs to go to braces in a few months.

The first ortho consult we had, the guy wanted to pull a bunch of teeth right away then go the retainer/braces route. We ended up getting a second opinion based on my dentist brother in-law's suggestion and we settled on the less invasive route.

My original point was just that the schedule for teeth falling out kind of varies kid to kid.  Same for the orthodontic treatment.  Braces at 10 aren't rare.

It's funny, even with the retainers after her adult eyeteeth came in one is a bit more prominent but she wasn't interested in going through it again to pull back one tooth a bit.

Ugh, I remember having braces for good chunks of both middle and high school.  Despite them wanting me to wear a retainer and do follow up visits, once those farkers were off that was the last they saw of me in their office.

There's no age cutoff for buying cocaine. Keith Richards is older than most of the trees in Redwood National Park and he still gets hourly deliveries from UberSnort.

The whole cryptocurrency disaster flies in the face of everything we believed about technological progress. Remember when going paperless was going to save the planet? We were so cute and naive then.

EdgeRunner: The whole cryptocurrency disaster flies in the face of everything we believed about technological progress.

Still does.  The only time a process should intentionally waste resources like that is if you're stuck having to brute force every possibility out of a lack of any other option.  Blockchains effectively do what they're doing through intentionally shiatty means to create a scarcity that wouldn't otherwise exist.  That's just bad programming.

EdgeRunner: Remember when going paperless was going to save the planet? We were so cute and naive then.

Right, but blockchain isn't the reason it was a naive idea, corporate bureaucracy and printers capable of speeds exceeding single digit numbers of pages per minute did that.  Thanks Xerox and HP!

Unfortunately that's where the naivety plays in. We put faith in the tech without factoring in the behavior of the corporations who'd be building it. "Faster, cheaper, and abundant!" always translates to something bad for the environment, paradoxically even when we're setting up something like recycling programs. We just can't seem to help ourselves.
