(Some Guy)   The mistake wasn't betting against Aaron Rodgers so much as it was betting on the Detroit Lions to win   (sportscasting.com) divider line

Gotta hedge those bets.

That was a lot of words just to say some guy missed the last of a 16 team parlay.

Also, never bet on Detroit to win at Lambeau no matter who the QB is.

TacoConsumer: Gotta hedge those bets.

I haven't seen any articles that mention if the person hedged but seems unlikely.  I'm guessing most casual bettors don't have $59K lying around to hedge against but there are gambling sites where you can sell your betting slips.  Guy could have probably cashed out for a guaranteed $40-$50K.  Oh well.

/do not take gambling advice from me

He collected early and got $133k.  No Lions needed

I'd bet on the Lions to go 0-17.

I assume this was a calculated move for publicity.  Their TOS doesn't allow cashouts on promotional bets, and the Lions are, well... the Lions.  They could have easily let it ride and sent him home empty-handed.

I'm not a big gambling person to begin with, but I REALLY don't understand the obsession lately with giant parlays.

It's like playing the lottery.  Risk a little with a chance to make a lot.

I mean, I no longer understand loving sports without having money on it tbh.

And there's nothing in gambling quite like seeing all the pieces of a parlay start to break your way. Imagine if the lottery numbers were done this way - most results are binary but some with extreme favorites would give you 1 in 3 or 4 odds. And there's 16 numbers you pick each week.

And then you get one number on Thursday. You get it, so you care about the rest of the drawing.

Then you get another 10 or so numbers on Sunday, early afternoon. They come in over a period of half an hour or so.

Now you've basically called heads or tails correctly 11 times in a row. And with fewer afternoon/night games up, you're watching each coin flip in real time, seeing the battle to make you money. The teams you have bets on are your heroes, fighting to make you wealthy. The teams you're betting against are all assholes who hate your dreams of wealth.

It's hard to give a sh*t about sports when you have literally nothing invested in the outcome.

After years of liking the guy I finally got him as my fantasy qb. Man did he shiat the bed so hard week one. 4 points... Was expecting something in the 20's. I even got the "award" for having the highest scoring player still on the bench, Winston over on the Saints now. But I still won last week!

Cut to this week and I was close to swapping them but stuck with Rogers. Was a total flip and he did great, Winston did not. Glad I made the right choice, sucks when you second guess and leave a good player on the bench. But I still lost this week!

/it's gambling no matter how many lobbyists tell the government otherwise.

What....the Dumbass tag is out to lunch or something?

Never bet on the Detroit Lions to win at Lambeau Field. Especially this year. They have no defense.

The contrast in Aaron Rodgers from Week 1 to 2 is so dramatic I think it gave me whiplash. Was he drunk last week? Trolling the fans?

for a couple year i would bet on the lions to loose every game and not cover the spread. i didn't pay any attention to who they were playing or where or who was hurt or anything.  i never lost money over the course of a season.
