In reading the article, he hasn't been indicted and the killer may very well get higher charges than manslaughter

"Me and my deputies will be asking the grand jury to return an indictment and charging Mr. Cranston. "We're still deciding what level of crime we're going to be asking for -- whether we'll be asking for murder or some other degree of homicide."

I knew that. Hell, if you're a republican state attorney general, you can kill a guy in a hit-and-run and basically get a wrist slap.

Last name of Washington?  I wondered what his ethnic background was.  Unfortunately I was proven right.  Google his name and you'll see his photo.  What with George Floyd and Trayvon, I've got no idea what the judge and jury will do.

This.

Hey, a Marvel Studios actor may have possibly made some off-color jokes on Reddit years ago!

There's only so much time in the 24 hour news cycle.

But I was told an armed society is a polite society. In this case, Ian Cranston politely pulled a gun and politely shot and killed a man, politely turning a minor scuffle into a murder.

2021-09-22 1:15:58 PM
At first it sounded like a dead guy harassing a girl that was there with a guy. Then I read "Cranston was a machinist at Nosler, a bullet manufacturer with offices in Bend and Redmond."

That guy's been waiting to shoot a N_______ for a long time.

Came here to say this. By Florida law (then; don't know if it's changed) if you start a fight, but during the fight you become afraid for your life, you are justified in using lethal force against the person you're fighting. Don't know what other jurisdictions have "stand your ground" laws.

Yup.  To this day, I don't give a shiat whether he was in fear of his life at the moment he shot.  He SOUGHT OUT that altercation, standing your ground shouldn't count when you do that.

You very well could kill a guy in a fight you started, and get only a manslaughter charge or less. However, that's not what happened here. Seems like the fight was over, or in any event, one of them escalated it by pulling a gun. That's not manslaughter, that's second degree murder.

If you pull out a gun and shoot someone, it's automatically intent to kill, so most definitely NOT manslaughter.  If you get into fisticuffs and your opponent falls from your punch and breaks his neck, that could be manslaughter because you had not intended to kill him.

You're thinking of first degree murder. Second degree murder does not need to be premeditated.

And it didn't.  Zimmerman asserted straight up self defense.  SYG was only brought up by the media and people that didn't know what they were talking about.

Yea, I love that show and I'm amazed how many only get slaps on the wrist.  I guess a guaranteed "win" is more important that justice.

They've barely started investigating. They can upgrade the charges if they want.

IIRC, he didn't invoke SYG.  He got off on regular self-defense, despite breaking practically every rule in the Sanford Neighborhood Watch program (do not carry a gun, only observe and report, do not assume guilt, do not follow and do not exit your house or vehicle) and the 911 operator's instructions.

Well, its hard to say how this will go, but looks like the guy pulled his gun after things had calmed and wasn't under immediate threat, and if so, hope he gets murder 2. Mind, if that seems probably, will likely please down to Man 1 or soemthing, but either way, enjoy your time in jail you murdering bastard. May it be long and uncomfortable

Well that story scares the poo out of me...
My brother once hit on a lady at a bar who happened to have a drunk boyfriend nearby.  Drunk boyfriend punched my brother, dragged him to the bathroom, and proceeded to kick him in the knees from the side.  His leg is still all farkked up from it and he had to get surgery eventually.
Drunk boyfriend never got in any trouble.
This story makes me shudder to think if drunk boyfriend had a gun that night, my brother would be dead.

RIP Mr. Washington :(

You can use a gun to stop an attack by shooting someone without the intent to kill them.

You clearly do not know how guns work.  Shooting to wound only exists in Hollywood.
