Yes, yes; was making a joke.  Maybe not a very good one, but a joke nonetheless.

I would've included "pros", too, but I don't know either state maintains data on number of prostitutes. I'd imagine Cali wins out there, too.

Yeah and so what? I live in SF and this place is fantastic... and it's also a shiatehole all at the same time.

California is blessed with real estate, tech and apparently insurance companies still. As 2 out of 3 of those are leaving maybe the pressure on the third will ease. Of course all that juicy tax money is out with it.

We can go just about anywhere without a mask these days. Everywhere is hiring and $15/hr is the norm. All the schools are open, with protections.

I was in LA a couple weeks ago, and before that, Texas.  The contrast in how people handle Covid day to day between the two is stark.  People take masks seriously in CA, in Texas, not so much.  And that's just to start...

As an aside, while I know the headline was tongue-in-cheek, that actual attitude is a goodly part of what folks hate about "ugly Americans."

The belligerent ignorance used to characterize us - that "know-it-alls" are bad, that no one should be proud of doing the right thing, and that you aren't the boss of us - has been on full display during the pandemic. We'll do the wrong thing, deliberately and maliciously, because we have "the freedom" to do so and because it'd piss you off, and then attack you should you tell us that it's the wrong thing or even try to help us do the right thing, because who in the hell do you think you are telling us not to wear a mask, and I'll be goddamned if I get a shot - my buddy Bob heard from one of his bowling partners that his friend's mom had blood pouring out of her ass after getting one of those COVID kill shots so if you try to give me one of those shots I'm gonna shoot you with this here gun. Nah, I'm gonna gargle with bleach & Betadine, then take horse dewormer because my lazy-ass doctor won't prescribe hydrochloroquine like I told him to, and trust in the Lord to keep me from catching the 'rona because I sure as hell ain't gonna listen to that ass Fauci or those friggin' libs now sitting in the White House after a crooked election, and it clearly was crooked because I didn't vote for the guy and because my buddy Bob - y'know, the one with the bleeding-ass fool what took the vaccine - said that Trump said that the MyPillow guy said that some guy had looked at some packets and said that they were fake, so clearly the election was stolen and they're lucky I didn't go to the White House in January (I mean, I couldn't, not with this damned cough) and kick Pelosi's ass for lying to us all.

Feh.

What ever happened to the LA smog? It just hasn't been the same since they out-sourced all the industry to China and the developing world.

What I really miss is those snowglobes with soot instead of snow. I miss them so much, although mainly because I have never seen or had one. But they were cheeky anyhoo.
