One of my fondest memories is when the power went out and it was just me and the 2 kids, we broke out the oil lamp, chutes and ladders board game, and some paper. We twisted up our own little paper people and played the boardgame, but with a twist:

The paper people had to escape the Fire God (the lamp) who would get angrier as they approached the end of the game. The paper people were terrified lol. I think I had just read Lord of the Rings or something, so I made it an adventure. We made paper planes to fly away, paper poppers that transformed into "parachutes" the paper people could use. We drew "bases" for our people with tanks and guns and then attacked each other lol. I had this little origami book and we while sat and tried to make animals for our paper bases, the lights came on.

In fact, I'm reminded of a couple of times the power went out and the kids and I came together and entertained each other. Good times.

I'm reminded of how I used to dazzle my lil niece by making a paper plane. Kids are easy to impress, they are like "HOW DID YOU THAT".

Hell, making a paper airplane at the office is always fun. Nothing is more simple and fun than writing a note on a paper plane and tossing it in the air. Everyone watches it go. It's guaranteed to make someone smile.

I remember taking some test when I was a kid. One set of questions involved folding a piece of paper. The paper was like an irregularly shaped checkerboard. You were supposed to mentally fold the bigger shape into a smaller one based upon the outlines of the internal squares. I started mentally folding and realized that everything would fold down to a single square. So, I answered the first question that way. And the second. And then, I realized that was wrong and quit answering that series of questions. I have no idea what the "correct" answer was, but I suspect that anything other than "a square" was more correct than "a square". That it was a test of Imagination and spatial awareness. I have neither.

I don't have the link on hand...  but there is a YouTube out there that shows these people using some computer program to look at pretty much any object, and show how it can be created using folds.

And I mean anything from a silly little airplane to a scorpion.

Most useful thing, a bottle opener.

Wanted to say a brooch or a pterodactyl, but that was covered already.

I can't remember who showed me how to make it, but years ago learned how to twist a cocktail napkin into a rose. If you want the stems to have leaves or thorns, some tearing is needed.
